Week Three in our Worship Series:
Leading Causes of Life

Join us this Sunday as we explore how knowing our meaning and purpose can help us make sense of our life so we flourish.

“We want our lives to be about life. We want to be with people who are working on life and build connections that help us help each other do that year after year until we hand our work over to others.” (Leading Causes of Life)

When we know in our bones what we are here to be and do, we have coherence. Knowing where we belong and finding meaning in our lives gives us a purpose that holds up even (and especially) in the storms of life.

Jesus said he had “come to set the prisoners free.” Bottom line.

To have a life-leaning bottom line invites adaptability and choice, it doesn’t restrict it. How does our faith in Christ lead us to grow deeper in faith and understanding of who we are and what our purpose is all about?

SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY!!
Since trick or treating will be difficult this year, we would like to give FUMC children Halloween treats at half-time on Wednesday, October 28. Anyone interested in donating a bag of candy can drop it off at the church any morning 9-12 and just leave it in the box inside the west doors. If you would like to donate, but really can't get it to the church, let us know and we will make arrangements to pick it up.

Thanks so much for making Halloween special for our children in this challenging time.
#LoveYourNeighbor

Galatians 5:14 says, "For the whole law is summed up in a single commandment, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'"

Love Your Neighbor! It's that simple! Love each other!

1 Corinthians 13: 4-7
Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

1 Corinthians 13:13
And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.

We understand that tensions are currently high with the 2020 election looming over us and Co-Vid still making its presence known. It would be a nice time to remember these scriptures, heed their messages, and be an example for each other.
In an effort to get our message out to the community we will be selling yard signs that express this message. All proceeds will be going to the Youth group toward their mission trip next summer. A special Connection will be coming with all the information you will need to order your sign. We hope you will enjoy displaying this message of hope for all to see.

Report on Special Church Conference

On October 5, twenty-five people gathered on Zoom to vote on forming a new Permanent Endowment Committee. DS, Jenny Collins led our meeting. There were 20 votes in favor and  2 abstentions. Pastors and the DS do not vote.   The committee has a new charter to guide the work.

As the committee begins their work, more information will come forward to educate and inform the congregation.

Thanks to everyone who participated and all the work put forward to bring this to fruition.

We have recently mourned the loss and celebrated the lives of these members and friends of FUMC.

Rose Hirschorn - We were notified that Ms. Hirschorn passed away recently in New York. She was our choir director many years ago but we thought some of you may remember her.

Please continue to keep their families and friends in your prayers.

Camp Chippewa Sustainability Fundraising Campaign and Concert: "We have a dedicated site council and committed leadership at the camp doing their absolute best to ensure that Camp Chippewa has the ability to continue in ministry for years to come. Because of this, Camp Chippewa has embarked on a sustainability fundraising campaign! At this time, we want to invite you to join our sustainability matching campaign. Every dollar given to this campaign will be matched by a donor, ultimately meaning that every dollar our camp family is able to give will be two, every $10 is $20, and every $50 is $100. To help celebrate our sustainability matching campaign, we are so blessed to share the news of a benefit concert here at Camp Chippewa! Artist Stars Go Dim will be performing at Camp Chippewa on Sunday, October 18th at 4 pm

We would like to promote this concert as an FUMC family event. We usually spend a day at Chippewa in the fall, but that won't be feasible this year, so we would like to encourage families to take advantage of this opportunity. The concert will be held outdoors, masks are required and social distancing will be observed. Bring your own lawn chairs or blankets to sit on. While the concert is free, tickets do need to be reserved in order to manage numbers and stay in compliance with COVID guidelines. To help ensure that Camp Chippewa will continue to serve our area, a donation of $10 per person is suggested.

To reserve your tickets, go here: https://bit.ly/3kSZdi4 Because of the limited amount, make sure to reserve your tickets as soon as possible!

Crossroads will NOT meet on October 18, but due to transportation challenges, we cannot make this a "youth event". Youth families are encouraged to attend!

Parking Lot Worship

This Sunday, October 18, we will continue our 8 am parking lot worship service on the west side of the church.

You will want to make sure your FM radio is working in your vehicle and will be instructed Sunday morning as to what channel to set it at to hear the worship service.

We ask that you remain in your vehicle during the service.

Restrooms will not be available.

It is our hope that this is an opportunity and means for us to more visibly be and feel like we are the church together. Hope to see you!

The 10:35 worship service will continue to be Live-Streamed on KVOE.

FOOD PANTRY HELP

WELCOME BACK

We will welcome those who feel comfortable back into the Sanctuary for worship at 10:35. Those who desire to come to in-person worship at the church must follow the 5 Golden Rules that have been adopted:

      •You shall wear your mask

•You shall keep social distance (6 feet)

      •You shall sanitize your hands

•You shall STAY home if you are sick

In no way do we wish for you to think that in-person worship is the expected or preferred way to worship. In-person worship will be one of many worship options that will be offered. We will continue to provide Internet Streaming of the 10:35 worship along with the radio broadcast of the service on KVOE. We will also continue to offer the 8 am Parking Lot worship service as well.

Guidelines for In-Person Worship

  • Doors will be open at 10:10 am and will close when we reach safe seating capacity

  • Masks required to be worn at all times covering nose and mouth while inside for adults and school-age children
  • Wear a personal mask if you have one (Masks will be provided if needed)
  • 6 feet of social distance required of non-residing groups

  • Hand sanitizer upon entry

  • Restroom facilities will be available if needed.

  • No Congregational Singing or Responsive Readings

  • Worship/Song leaders will use protective plexiglass screens

It is our hope that you will find a worship setting (Online, Radio, Parking Lot, or In-Person) that you can feel comfortable with.  We give thanks for the many different ways we can live out our faith and witness.

Limited Meeting Space Open Again

We have opened the South Parlor to church groups for meetings!!!
We want to do this slowly and as safely as possible, so the times approved by the Church Council and the Ad Hoc Committee, for now, are 9:00 am to noon, Monday thru Friday. This allows for thorough cleaning in the afternoons to prepare for the next day. We request that you schedule your meeting less than 2 weeks out. The meeting space will accommodate no more than 12 people at a time with social distancing. We can offer Zoom in the Parlor to create a hybrid type of meeting if necessary. The Five Golden Rules (see above) will be followed and Masks Will Be Required. If you are interested in reserving the space, please call Kathy in the office at (620)342-6186 for more details.

We really look forward to seeing you again and returning to some sort of new normal.
Current Church Building Use and Hours

The church building and offices are currently open from 8 am to noon, Monday thru Friday. Appointments must be made with Bob/Kathy to enter the building in the afternoons or in the evenings.

Staff may be in the building working during other hours.

Please inform Bob/Kathy of whereabouts so sanitizing of space can happen.

We ask you to please not use your personal church key to enter without notifying Bob or Kathy.

Thank you so much for helping to protect the staff and community during this transition time of the pandemic. We are trying very hard to keep our environment clean and sanitary for everyone. And as everywhere else, MASKS are always required in the building!
