Opt-Out Community Solar
For the first time in the U.S., community solar will be offered on an opt out basis—and the Villages of Brockport and Lima, NY, in partnership with Joule Community Power, are leading the charge. The New York State Department of Public Service (DPS) has approved implementation of the pilot in Lima and Brockport as a component of Joule’s Finger Lakes Community Choice program. Community outreach, public education, and preparations for implementation to 3,000+ households began in September. Read more in the press release or check out other industry coverage here:
For more on how community solar programs work, listen to the WXXI Radio program sitting down with Brockport Mayor Margay Blackman, Lima Trustee John Wadach, Sue Hughes Smith and Ben Frevert of Roctricity along with Joule’s Managing Director, Jessica Stromback.
RFP for NYS Solar Developers
As the only program administrator authorized to integrate Community Choice Aggregation and Community Solar, Joule is looking for proposals from NY State solar developers (asset owner/operators or developers) or their representatives to deliver up to 25,000 MWh of CDG credits annually to identified subscribers, on an opt-out basis, beginning Q1 2021. If you would be interested in receiving the RFP (due November 5th), please contact Eddie Streng at estreng@jouleassets.com.

Local Giving Back
In response to the impact of COVID-19 in our partner communities, the majority of funds raised in the last quarter by Joule’s community solar program were put toward local relief efforts through non-profit organizations including the Rondout Valley Food Pantry, Rockland Community Foundation, and Family of New Paltz.
