Congratulations Tim Winton Award winners!

The ceremony for the 2020 Tim Winton Award for Young Writers was held at Subiaco Library on Monday 12 October to acknowledge finalists across five age categories from lower primary school to upper secondary school.

Congratulations to our overall winner, fourteen-year-old Karoline Magpily for her story The Singularity.

Acclaimed author and award patron Tim Winton was a guest speaker at the event and emphasised the importance of exercising the muscles of imagination and the impact storytelling, and particularly the stories of young people, has on our lives. “Storytelling is fun; it’s also necessary and the stories that we imagine and the stories we tell each other really do shape our lives – young people’s stories and imagination literally shape the future,” he said.

This year, the City received more than 1350 entries, with around 17 per cent coming from regional areas, including Christmas Island, Denmark and Kalgoorlie.

For more information about the award and to read the winning stories online visit the City's website.
