Thoughts and Prayer
If you've been an Episcopalian longer than a minute, you are familiar with this image of a three-legged stool. Symbolically the stool represents three pillars of our faith: scripture, reason, and tradition. Our experience as Christians informs each one of these pillars--how we read the bible, how use our minds and intuition to study and understand our faith, and how we carry forward and perpetuate the faithfulness of the church as ministers of Christ.
All those HOW's are part of another three legged stool essential to our ministry. This stool's legs represent our time, talent, and treasure. The first stool shapes our faith, the second reminds us to share our gifts, living out our faith in the world.

Everything we have is a gift from God. We can get caught up in our own lives and forget this, but when we stop and sit to contemplate all we love about this gift of life, we cannot help but want to share our joy with others. The real gift is in the sharing!

Abundant God, you made us in your image and breathed in us a spirit of generosity that is both gift and response. Move us, we pray, to give as we have received--abundantly, generously, and joyfully that our common ministry may ever bear witness to your unfailing grace. In the name of the Three in whom we are One, Amen.

Gratefully yours,
Polly
There is considerable concern that we are heading into a difficult and stressful time, leading up to the election, and in the days and weeks after. Over the next few weeks, our bishops will share with us important messages reminding us who we represent as faithful Christians. I invite you to find time to watch and be inspired to stand up and shine the light of Christ.

He founded Spirituality of Conflict, a project devoted to exploring conflict in the gospels with an aim toward informing participants' encounters with conflict in their lives. Where do we see conflict in the gospel? Lots of places. Not all conflict is bad. Violent conflict is bad. Explore this course with your St. Luke's family and see how managing conflict can inspire humanity to improve the human condition.

THE BISHOP IS COMING DECEMBER 13TH

Please mark your calendars for December 13th--we're not sure what this service will look like, but even if the coronavirus is worsening and we are online only, Bishop Curry plans to be here.

Classes are beginning on Zoom, October 26th at 6:30 p.m. to prepare anyone for confirmation, baptism, reaffirmation or just to learn more about the Episcopal Church, its faith and tradition. We'll meet Monday nights 10/26 and 11/2, 11/16, and 11/30, with an in-person (socially distanced) gathering closer to Dec. 13th.

Please call the church office to let us know you're interested or email Polly. Young persons preparing for confirmation will go to Camp McDowell November 6-8 for a weekend retreat.

The Daily Office
(Morning and Evening Prayer)

Participation in the Daily Office is at the heart of Anglican spirituality. It is the proper form of daily public worship in the church and may be led by either a clergy or lay person.

On Wednesday evenings St. Luke's offers evening prayer live online and we'd love to have lay persons lead the service from your home or at the church if you prefer. The service calls us together to thank God for  the past day, and to pray that "this evening may be holy, good, and peaceful." Sharing these quiet prayers and readings from scripture builds and strengthens  the body of Christ. If you would like to take part in leading Evening Prayer please let Polly know. She will walk you through this wonderful lay ministry opportunity.
