13th Annual Feeding the Multitude

This year, the Feeding of the Multitude will be a drive-through event.
Each of 600 families will receive a Thanksgiving bag of uncooked ingredients to feed a family of four. The drive-through “Grab & Go” bag pick-up will take place at Walton Hall from 12 to 3 p.m. Saturday, November 21. We will also provide cooked takeout meals for true shut-ins who have nobody to cook for them. In addition, we will have a few prepared meals on site in case someone arrives needing a hot meal.
Because we will have no dining on site due to COVID precautions, we will not need many volunteers on the day of the Feeding. We hate that, because it is indeed a joyful day when we come together as one Christian Church to be instruments for our Lord to grow His Kingdom. However, we can still join as a community by uniting in prayer and also by serving as Neighborhood Captains, encouraging others to donate bags of food.
If you are able to be a Neighborhood Captain or if you can provide one or more bags of food yourself (or with someone else to share the expense), please sign up with your commitment. Meemee Williams and Edith Dixon are tracking names and number of bags promised. Each family’s groceries needs to be in a doubled paper bag with handles. If you need paper bags, we will provide them at the Church or deliver them to you.

What's needed in each Grab & Go bag?
   2Ib. bag of rice
One 14-18 oz. can/jar or 2 packets of turkey gravy
Two 14-16 oz. cans of green beans
Two 14-16 oz. cans of yams or sweet potatoes
One box of stovetop stuffing mix
One 14-16 oz. can of cranberry sauce or dressing
   One pkg. of Hawaiian rolls
One box of cookies or store-bought cookies

Approx. cost is $20 per bag ($17 at Walmart). Bag donations should be delivered to Neighborhood Captains no later than 9:00am November 14. Once Neighborhood Captains collect the bags and check that they contain the ingredients, we ask that they deliver to Walton Hall on Wednesday, November 18, or Thursday, Nov. 19. If any ingredients are missing from the bags, we ask that they staple a note on the bag, so that the team can add the item. The FTM team will later add a frozen turkey to your bag.

You can also donate by check or use online giving. Add “Feeding the Multitude” to your check or on-line note.

Contact Meemee (cricketwill@yahoo.com) 843-559-3877 or Edith Dixon (Etdixon3539@aol.com) 843-830-5353 with any questions.

Attached is a flyer for Neighborhood Captains to give out. Be sure to fill in your contact information at the bottom so that they can reach you if they have questions. We will also have printed fliers that you can pick up at Walton Hall.

Continuing Support For Our Lady of Mercy

Can You Donate Canned Food?
Drop off cans of meat, fish, canned fruit, and canned beans.

Thank you for all the generous donations of food. Please continue to drop of your donations of canned food when you visit Walton Hall on Saturday morning or Sunday morning. Specifically donations of canned meat and fish, canned fruit, and canned beans help families cope with the long-term effects of COVID-19 restrictions and other financial challenges.

Relief Funds for Hurricanes

Servants Heart Disaster Relief (SHDR)  is soliciting donations for Trinity Anglican Church (Lafayette, LA) to bring clean water and other supplies to those affected by hurricane Laura and Sally. These Hurricanes have caused an estimated $12 billion in damage with power and water systems not expected to return for weeks or months. Due to the pandemic, Servant’s Heart is unable to offer volunteers, but would like to provide financial support. Our donations will likely be matched through a Matthew 25 grant already received by SHDR if they are received before the end of September. Any donation would be most helpful!

Contribution checks should be made out to St. John’s Parish with SHDR in the “for” section. It can be mailed to St. John’s (P.O. Box 125, Johns Island, SC 29457) or placed in the offering plate. You can also Give online via the website and Mobile App.

Prayers

For Persecuted Churches

We pray for persecuted churches around the world. For the month of October we pray for the nation of India.

Heavenly Father, Christians and Christian churches in the India are suffering due to religious nationalism, persecution, and Covid-19. We lift them up in your Holy Name, asking for your mercy to surround them. We pray for the Christian churches in India to persevere through the power of the Holy Spirit. Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.

Prayers for Healing

May we who are merely inconvenienced
Remember those whose lives are at stake.

May we who have no risk factors
Remember those most vulnerable.

May we who have the luxury of working from home
Remember those who must choose between
preserving their health or making their rent.

May we who have the flexibility to care for our children when their schools close
Remember those who have no options.
May we who have to cancel our trips
Remember those who have no safe place to go.

May we who are losing our margin money
in the tumult of the economic market
Remember those who have no margin at all.

May we who settle in for a quarantine at home
Remember those who have no home.

As fear grips our country,
let us choose love.

During this time when we cannot
physically wrap our arms around each other,
Let us yet find ways to be the loving embrace of God to our neighbors.
Amen.

Increase, O God, the spirit of neighborliness among us,
that in peril we may uphold one another,
in suffering tend to one another,
and in homelessness, loneliness, or exile befriend one another.
Grant us brave and enduring hearts
that we may strengthen one another,
until the disciplines and testing of these days are ended,
and you again give peace in our time;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.
