NEW SCHOOL GARDEN AT BARNUM ELEMENTARY

We are excited that we are building a new school garden at Barnum Elementary! We could really use your help to build it on Saturday, October 24th from 9:00 am-1:30 pm. Volunteers will be moving materials, breaking soil, laying cardboard, laying block and capstones, installing rebar supports, and filling with dirt. We will be meeting at The Co-Op at 1st (5045 W 1st Ave, Denver, CO 80219) at 9:00 am and then head over to the school. Face masks are required to participate and we ask that if you have any COVID/Flu/Cold symptoms that you do not attend this volunteer opportunity. CALL FOR THE CO-OP AT 1ST BOARD MEMBERS

Thank you for following the work of the Co-op at 1st!
Our most immediate need is to choose the first 7 board members to serve as The Co-op at 1st's fearless leaders!

We are looking for diverse voices from the Barnum Community, Local Food Producers and Distributors, Business Expertise, Folks Knowledge about Co-ops, and Passionate Local Food and Community Wealth Builders to serve on our new board for 1 year.

Starting Nov 1st we will be raising the funds to separate from our parent Non-Profit/Fiscal Sponsor Jovial Concepts and formally create The Co-op at 1st Corporation! This will be a true owner-operated, community-run co-operative organization. We will remain strong partners with Jovial Concepts, but recognize we can better serve the community as our own co-operative. Our goal area remains the immediate underserved areas of Barnum as well as numerous partners across Denver and Jeffco.

Feed the Hungry - Donation-Based Outdoor Yoga Class Oct. 24, 2020

Come and join us! October 24th at 9 a.m. we will be hosting a donation based yoga class with Rooted Heart Yoga and Wellness!
Class instructor Annie Martens, will be holding the class in partnership with us to raise donations that will go towards sack-meals for families in need due to COVID-19 hardships.

Come grab some coffee and shop around The Market! We are always accepting new volunteers in our market and are flexible for hours during the time the market is open! If you would like to volunteer, email Alyssa at the email below.

We ask that all customers, volunteers, and employees wear a mask while you are in the market and follow social distancing practices.

New additions to the Food Program!

Last month we were able to bring our food program back and this month we are excited to announce that we will be handing out milk, bread, and eggs every week! Participants can now pick up their produce box, milk, eggs, bread, 5 breakfast meals per child, and 5 lunch meals per child. You can sign up and pick up your food on Tuesdays from 10:00-6:30 in the Event Room. The Event Room entrance is located in the East Parking Lot.

Volunteering for the Food Program:

We could really use help with our food program on Tuesday's from 9:00 am-10:00 am. During this time we will be moving produce boxes and setting up for the day. If available please email Alyssa at the email below.

Volunteering for our Food Program is a great way to get through this time, get out of the house, and help your community. However, we ask that if you have ANY symptoms of a cold, flu, or COVID-19 that you stay home. We appreciate your willingness to help but we will have more volunteer opportunities throughout the year. You can also help by donating on our website.

The Co-Op at 1st & Jovial Concepts is excited to be part of the 2020/2021 Environmental Leadership Program! This program is for non-profits and for-profits that have a passion for sustainability and the environment. We have also made a commitment to reducing our waste by 15%, energy by 10%, and water by 10% in the next year!

We ask during this time if you have any symptoms to please refrain from visiting The Co-Op Market, Classes, Events, or Volunteering. You are welcomed to send a friend/family member to pick up food from our emergency food program or curbside grocery pick up from The Market.
