Deep Listening Across Generational Lines

Trish Ibrahim, SE Coordinator

Sunday, October 11th 10:30am

I am excited to be your SE coordinator and bring you our first zoom multigen service. Bring a blank piece of paper and pen with you for an interactive and fun service. Kids if you made a chalice from the activity on Padlet also bring that along with you so you can light yours along with the congregations. Our faith asks us to practice compassion. It’s part of our Second UU Principle, “Justice, equity, and compassion in human relations.” So what’s one of the ways our faith guides us into becoming a people of deep listening? It tells us to “Listen to your heart’s call to be compassionate!”

Important News from the Ministerial Search Committee

We are off to a slow start with survey responses.  We are extending our survey deadline to Sunday, October 11th in hopes of getting at least 20 more replies.  We are particularly missing the voice of our younger community under the age of 40.  The survey is anonymous.  Visit cuub.org/search for updates on the process.

Please Fill out this ANONYMOUS survey <click here> by October 11th .

We also have seen only a couple of signups for our scheduled Cottage meetings.  Therefore, we will instead host a couple of sessions in place of Coffee Hour after our regular services on October 18th and 25th.

SJ Team to Sponsor ERACCE Workshop

Wednesday, October 28th & Thursday, October 29th from 3-6 pm

Our Social Justice Team is hard at work making CUUB the place to be for effective action on important issues.

Past activities included a 2017 partnering with other organizations to hold the Love Rally at the mill pond to stand against hate and white supremacy & recently we participated in the Brighton Allies for Racial Justice vigil.  Now CUUB SJ is hosting an online workshop for individuals and organizations across Livingston County.

This will be via Zoom on Wednesday, October 28th & Thursday, October 29th from 3-6 pm. The goals are twofold: for individuals to deepen their understanding of systemic racism, and to strengthen connections between organizations in Livingston County through a shared experience.

The workshop will be facilitated by the Kalamazoo based group, ERACCE (Eliminating Racism and Creating/Celebrating Equity) which was founded in 2000 to help individuals and institutions understand the root causes of U.S. racism and develop strategies for dismantling systemic racism, specifically within our own organizations where we have the most impact.

So please mark your calendar TODAY and more information will be made available soon.  If you have any questions on this or other SJ activities please please email Alicia Zemper at aliciazemper@gmail.com. Click here to register.
