NZ in top 10 of WEC's Energy Trilemma Index

New Zealand has one of the world’s leading energy systems when it comes to sustainability, security and affordability. It is the only country that has had a triple A grade in all three areas since 2000. Despite declining energy security, New Zealand continues to rank highly thanks to growing environmental sustainability and stable energy equity.

Future focused EV graduates hit the workforce

Early in October eleven Otago Polytechnic students graduated from the Otago Polytechnic Level 5 Certificate in Electric Vehicle Automotive Engineering. Students are trained to diagnose and repair faults specific to EVs.

UoA's Student Energy Leaders and the Energy Centre host Networking Event
 
In partnership with University of Auckland's Student Energy Leaders and Energy Centre, we hosted an in-person and virtual panel discussion and networking event in Auckland on Monday, 12th October.  We had a diverse panel of energy professionals from industry, academia and community energy who shared their views on the most pressing topics for the energy sector.

Airbus targeting mid 2030s release of zero emissions aircraft
 
European plane maker Airbus SE has revealed 3 designs being studied for hydrogen powered planes, aiming to bring them into service by 2035. Airbus is under pressure from its biggest shareholders, the French and German governments, to speed up development of new aircraft having invested €2.5 billion during the COVID-19 pandemic.
