Question of the week

Q: Thoughts on TRT .... rather than traditional approaches with enanthate/cypionate esters which circulate in the body for 2 weeks, it would seem much more natural to have short spikes from something like Proprianate. If taken in the morning, then the levels will drop by nightfall, simulating a more natural rhythm.  I also like the concept of using for 2 weeks, and then stop, to avoid the body from adjusting to higher levels and thereby creating more aromatase. 2 weeks on, 4-6 weeks off is a nice strategy, but now I am curious about going further, to say 2 days on, 2 weeks off, or something like that.  So I'm just curious for your thoughts about this. On the 'on' days, I think it's beneficial to have a high potassium diet. - Shan

A: Testosterone will have immediate anabolic and androgenic effects in a dose-dependent manner, which is also controlled by how well testosterone is converted to DHT ofc.

Dosing and cycling would also depend on your goal. If you want to build muscle, then supraphysiological doses are needed and then you don't want to do short cycles.
Short term supraphysiological use is very unlikely to give you a genetic advantage because you have to use testosterone for 3+ months in order to get a more permanent genetic benefit. For example, someone might struggle to build bigger shoulders, but on testosterone and other steroids, they're able to. If they use the steroids long enough, they will maintain those steroid gains even if they stop.

Using steroids short term (short cycles infrequently) might not be effective in giving you that long term benefit.

However, if your goal is only health benefits, then short cycles with small doses might also be inferior to longer cycles, such as 6 weeks on 2 weeks off or even longer. People generally report better benefits with more stable levels for longer periods of time.

In terms of aromatase, the body as a baseline activity for aromatase and testosterone doesn't increase that baseline activity. More estrogen might be converted, but it's just because there is more testosterone, and not because the aromatase is upregulated. Testosterone in itself is a mild aromatase inhibitor, whereas DHT is much more potent than T. So if a lot of T is converted to DHT, the DHT might even suppress baseline aromatase. But it depends on the dose that you use. Small doses might not raise estrogen at all, whereas with supraphysiological doses, it's a good idea to keep an eye on your estrogen levels and use an aromatase inhibitor with it if needed, such as androsterone.

Lastly, the liver upregulates detoxification of things that are in excess in the body. That's why it's good to use e.g. progesterone 2-3 week on and 1-2 weeks off, to prevent the excess upregulation of detoxification enzymes. However, with steroids, there are many studies where they use something like Anavar for many months and even years non-stop and continue to get benefits. So honestly, if you're using small doses, I don't think it's that important to cycle on and off unless you want to prevent the long term suppression of your LH. But...even after 5 years of Anavar use, the patients' LH went back up to normal within a few weeks/months after stopping.

A few fun facts

Fun fact no. 1:
An excess of gut serotonin promotes leaky gut, inflammation, vasoconstriction, fat gain, etc. Treating mice with anti-biotics significantly dropped their serotonin levels, which allowed them to lose weight.
I have a whole article on how serotonin affects your body composition and health.

The Alpha Energy Nutrition Course is designed to maximize gut health as well as teach you how to perfect your own diet to suit your current state of health and lifestyle perfectly.

Fun fact no. 2:
Winter sickness is when you start to feel depressed, sad, and even anxious during the winter months. This is because of the colder weather, shorter days, and lack of sunlight.

Using a UV lamp or supplementing with thunder god vine (R) has been shown to be very effective at ameliorating winter sickness.

What I've been doing differently lately

Having cooked apple instead of raw apple. I find it much easier to digest. Raw apple seemed to mess with my digestion a bit, whereas cooked apples have been fantastic so far. Two of my main meals are a ground organ mix with apple and I've been having very smooth energy the whole day with this mix.

Taking my black cumin with a meal instead of on its own. Thymoquinone is highly lipophilic, so theoretically, having it with fat should improve its absorption. I'm not yet sure if it's just placebo or not, but I have been feeling extra warm after my meals since taking it with my meals, which I never do when eating fruit.

Cycling taurine and GABA. When I first combined taurine and GABA, I slept very well and had extra strong morning wood. However, this became less pronounced after about a week. After taking off from it for about a week I used it again, with the same effects. So now I'm experimenting with cycling it to find which protocol would work best for me. I'm going to try 3 days on 2 days off for now.

Song I've been enjoying/"tripping" on this week

Overflow by Emmit Fenn. This is officially one of my wife's and my new favorite songs to listen to.  She found it on YouTube and was super excited to have me listen to it. The first time I heard it it made me just want to sit somewhere on a cliff overlooking the ocean and just "trip" big time lol. The both of us feel as if we're entering some sort of fantasy, gravity-less euphoric state that feels almost unreal. I'm sure this song gives us a good release of dopamine and endorphins lol. It's so great when you and your wife have the same taste in music. :D

Great quote

"One of the best pieces of advice I ever got was from a horse master.
He told me to go slow to go fast. I think that applies to everything in life.
We live as though there aren't enough hours in the day but if we do each thing calmly and carefully we will get it done quicker and with much less stress."

That's all for today. Hope you all have a great weekend!
