Hello. Calvin here again.
"This is a great day to succeed" This is what I said to myself as I was having my morning coffee and started affirming my business goals for the day.
You see, in spite of feeling a bit down because my son is in the Philippines since Feb and I miss him, I cannot let other thoughts consume my mind between 8am-5pm as I have to be focussed on my business goals.
Often, when we feel a little negative due to circumstances, we find we have less energy and drive to achieve our goals and we want to postphone tasks that could be completed today and which will move us closer to our career vision.
This is when we must put our feelings aside and step up a gear and make sure WE set the tone for the day and NOT our circumstances.
Yes, give yourself a pep-talk and sieze the day. It is only when we get creative and learn new skills that we will propel our career to greater heights.
Creativity means that we cannot solve new business challenges with old ideas ie. we have to see what are the trends in the market and then we have to step out of our comfort zone and learn the new technology skills which are required in the work-place.
Furthermore, we have to become more productive and get more goals achieved in one day instead of procrastinating even if it means working a little later 2 evenings a week.
Yes, there is no excuse to take evening courses or organizing lunch-time training sessions to get ahead.
It is not going to help until we feel motivated to do anything constructive about our career plans and sitting at home in the evenings and just thinking about it, is'nt going to help either. "Go out and get busy".
Once you dedicate yourself to continuous learning, you will experience: "Wow, I finally succeeded today and I feel great!"
The more you learn and the more you know, you will find more little successes each day which will eventually add up. So you won't be surprised when you get that business deal or promotion that you were hoping for because you have worked hard for it and earned it.
Success comes with the commitment you make each day to your plans which should include a programme of continuous learning.
