Listen.
Slim & The Beast is a Paris-based trio that I first encountered after posting a photo of one of my outdoor Writer's Hours sessions along the canal that I first connected with one of the band members. It was a good reminder of all the creative—and often unexpected—ways we can connect these days, and now you can regularly find their music on repeat on my Spotify. "Lisbon" and "Pasadena" are my two favorites, but really I love all their music—and album art.

I have to admit I haven't read The power of Ritual: turning everyday activities into soulful practices by Casper ter Kuile yet, but I thoroughly enjoy his interview with London Writer's Salon this week. Ter Kuile is a gay atheist, Harvard Divinity School Fellow, and co-host of the podcast "Harry Potter and the Sacred Text." His approach reframes the things we already love as sacred practice through intention, attention, and repetition.

The biggest topic of conversation in my life these days besides Covid and the US election is "Emily in Paris" (the new Netflix show I shared last week). The show has proven to be far quite controversial where people who fall in two camps: fans, or those who find it despicable. My reaction was similar to that of NYT corespondent Elaine Sciolino in her piece "France and Me: A Complicated Dance." I most definitely could agree with the sentiment, "to navigate Paris as an American is to be forced to slow down and embrace the process, ideally with a sense of humor.” Humor definitely has been my saving grace in France—and in life.
