LCA Families,

In an earlier Wingspan, I mentioned that our Executive Leadership Team is implementing several diversity awareness initiatives in order to be a more culturally sensitive body of Christ.  One of the initiatives in our plan is cultural awareness/diversity training.  I am happy to report that ACSI, the Association of Christian Schools International, the preeminent body of Christian schools worldwide in which LCA is a member, provides such training.  In a meeting last week, several of our Executive Leadership Team members met with Dr. Vernard Gant, an expert in Biblically-based cultural sensitivity training for Christian schools and Christian school boards.  Dr. Gant has agreed to do a number of virtual trainings for our LCA faculty and staff this school year!  Basing all of his professional development (P.D.) on scripture, Dr. Gant provides a cultural and historical perspective on race relations in the body of Christ, and he offers a number of specific strategies regarding a “Kingdom Approach” to becoming a more diverse campus.   P. D. topics that Dr. Gant may address include the following:

  • Assembling a diversity council.
  • Accessing the school’s readiness for diversity awareness and training.
  • Ascertaining the school’s culture.
  • Analyzing the school’s mission and vision.
  • Auditing the school’s curriculum and textbooks.
  • Addressing the school’s stakeholders.
  • Actively recruiting.

We will continue to unpack Dr. Gant’s recommendations as the year progresses and implement those that we believe will have the most impact on our campus.  Thank you, in advance, for being prayerful as we start this process.  If you would like more info about Dr. Gant and his ministry, check out this link:

Blessings to you and your families.

In Him,

2 Timothy 3:16-17, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for good work.”

If your student(s) is exhibiting the symptoms listed below, we ask that you not send them to school:

  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • A sore throat
  • A headache
  • A loss of taste or smell

Despite the fact that we conducted virtual instruction from March until May due to COVID-19 restrictions, we have much to be proud of when it comes to the 2019-20 school year. View our Academic Report Card here.
Due to COVID restrictions, we aren't able to celebrate Veterans Day in-person this year. However, we are planning to celebrate virtually and need your help. CELEBRATION OF LIFE - REMEMBERING MR. STEVE GIFFORD
Dear LCA Family,

This Saturday, October 17 at 1:00 PM, LCA will host a Celebration of Life remembering Steve Gifford. Many may recall, Mr. Gifford taught 9th Grade Bible for nineteen years at LCA.  In addition, Mr. Gifford's wife, Kathy, taught in our elementary school for a number of year. This past March, Mr. Gifford passed away because of a traumatic car collision.  At the time, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there were many restrictions placed on funeral visitations and services.  Due to those restrictions, many of our students, staff, faculty and families did not get an opportunity to express their love for the Gifford family.

On Saturday, we will host our event in LCA's main gym and use all of the necessary and recommended safety precautions including temperature checks before entering, maintaining social distance with the seating, and having everyone wear a mask during our time together.  We welcome students and families to attend and participate in this time as we honor Mr. Gifford and his family.  At the end of the service there will be a tree planting ceremony to honor Mr. Gifford.  If you would like to donate towards the cost of the tree, please submit that gift to our LCA Advancement office at 450 West Reynolds Road Lexington, KY 40503.

On His Team,

Keith A. Galloway
Assistant Principal / Athletics Chaplain
