Dear Ross Farm Friends,

We would normally be celebrating History Weekend at the Ross Farm on the weekend of Oct. 10 but nothing has been normal about 2020! What does feel right is sharing live music with our friends and neighbors. We are so excited to present a very special livestream concert with Brian Dunne at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10. You’ll get to enjoy the concert from the comfort of your own home as Brian plays some songs and tells some stories from the Ross Farm at one of the most beautiful times of the year. Join us virtually on our Facebook page, The Ross Farm – Basking Ridge, at 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 10. All donations at www.PayPal.me/RossFarmBR during the livestream will be split between Brian and the Friends of the Boudinot-Southard-Ross Estate.

Brian played to an enthusiastic audience in the Barn at the Ross Farm in 2017, and played a livestream for us in his Brooklyn apartment back in May. While taking a major pivot away from in-person live music and touring, Brian even managed to release a record in the midst of the pandemic. His poignant new album, ‘Selling Things,’ faces down doubt and disappointment head on, learning to make peace with uncertainty and find catharsis in acceptance. Recorded in Los Angeles with producer/mixer/engineer Andrew Sarlo (Big Thief, Caroline Rose), the collection is a dark and dreamy meditation on the nature of fulfillment, one that balances the personal and political as it contemplates an impending apocalypse that feels more literal and less metaphorical with each passing day. Dunne writes with a cinematic eye for detail here, offering up fully fleshed out character studies and immersive vignettes that capture the kind of small, seemingly inconsequential moments that only later reveal their profound and lasting impacts. It’s an approach that calls to mind everything from Jackson Browne and Tom Waits to Jonathan Richman and Chrissie Hynde, and the result is a blend of black humor and probing introspection that sounds at once vintage and modern, familiar and foreign, hopeful and fatalistic.

We are eagerly anticipating a wonderful evening with Brian and a virtual crowd of music lovers – you may even see a few surprises during the set. We are grateful to have technical and artistic support from Awakened Films and Kilroy Records for this unique endeavor!
