Dear Supporters – The purpose of this newsletter is to alert you to several items that have been added to our homepage under “Latest News”. But you’ll be hearing from us again soon about other topics.
We mentioned in our last newsletter that residents in the towns of Somerset and Yates would be receiving a survey with questions about Lighthouse Wind and other renewable energy topics. There was a strong response to the survey and we will share those results soon.
The Office of Renewable Energy Siting (ORES) has been formed to replace the Article 10 process in an effort to speed up the siting of renewable energy projects. Draft regulations as well as uniform standards and conditions have been released and we will share in another newsletter what you need to know about these. We have some serious concerns with the new process.
In Latest News, you’ll find a letter from several Niagara County legislators to the Public Service Commission expressing their concerns with siting industrial wind turbines in Lake Ontario. Legislators David Godfrey and John Syracuse also wrote an editorial in response to the Buffalo News editorial board’s piece entitled “Renewable, Inevitable”. We appreciate the work of our legislators on behalf of their constituents.
Also included in Latest News are two videos from Chautauqua Updates. Dr. Mark Twichell, a volunteer noise monitor for the Arkwright Summit Wind Farm, gives a clear explanation of wind turbine noise and an overview of wind development in NYS. The second video includes interviews with union workers picketing the Cassadaga Wind project site because of the developer’s use of out of state workers.
You will also find a link to a Buffalo News article called “As New York pushes green energy, localities bristle at loss of control”.
