W242 Friends,

We pray constantly for God to hold you up, strengthen you for today (tomorrow will worry about itself), and for all of us to take courage, together. Pastor Ron (yes, I call him pastor!) gave a WORD on Sunday. Thank you, Ron! In case you missed it, please check out the links below. We needed to hear that word. We needed to be reminded of God's faithful presence, and how we're called to faithfulness even beyond our own individual lives. "Take our bones" across the land if need be. No matter how the months ahead unfold, no matter what happens, no matter who says or does what, we remain faithful followers of Jesus.

Sunday reminded me of a prayer (posted via Ruth Haley Barton of the Transforming Center) written in memory of Oscar Romero, archbishop of San Salvador who was martyred for his outspoken advocacy for the poor, articulating the power of this perspective:

“It helps, now and then, to step back and take a long view.
The kingdom [of God] is not only beyond our efforts,
it is even beyond our vision.
We accomplish in our lifetime only a tiny fraction
of the magnificent enterprise that is God’s work.
We cannot do everything, and there is a sense of
liberation in realizing this.
This enables us to do something, and to do it very well.
It may be incomplete, but it is a beginning,
a step along the way, an opportunity for the Lord’s grace
to enter and do the rest.

We may never see the end results, but that is the difference
between the master builder and the worker.

We are workers, not master builders; ministers, not messiahs.
We are prophets of a future not our own.”

peace today,
Nate Ledbetter
