Fall 2020
The move to Bastin Hall is around the corner
Faculty and staff are currently preparing for their move into Bastin Hall. The 44,000 square foot building will be ready for occupancy in January, just in time for spring semester classes.

The BSB teams up with the School of Engineering to address global sustainability challenges
Poverty, inequality and climate change are some of the many challenges we face in our world today. In an effort to help find solutions to these important issues, two Citadel professors, one from the Tommy and Victoria Baker School of Business and another from the School of Engineering, are collaborating on new courses.

The classes will address United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG), guidelines for all countries to create a more sustainable future for all.

Exclusive program for incoming cadet business majors hits major milestone
For the first time since its inception, the Business Scholars Program in the Tommy and Victoria Baker School of Business has a group of cadets in every class level. The Business Scholars Program is comprised of a designated group of cadet business majors who receive scholarship money and exclusive benefits, boosting their educational experience and career development.

The program was founded in 2017 with the goal of attracting high achieving business students.

Accounting students awarded CMA scholarships
Ten accounting students were recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship to assist them in preparing for and taking the exam to earn their Certified Managerial Accountant (CMA) certificate.

Innovation and Entrepreneurship Speaker Series kicks off
The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Speaker Series has hosted three speakers since the beginning of the academic year. The mission of the series is to introduce students to business professionals working in entrepreneurial endeavors across various mediums of society. It is organized by James Bezjian, Ph.D. and David Desplaces, Ph.D.

Yes, it’s been a crazy year, mostly related to COVID 19, but not everything has been about the virus.  We’ve had lots of exciting developments in the Baker School of Business (BSB) this year, and I want to make sure that they are not overshadowed by all of the pandemic news.

Two new majors approved
The South Carolina Commission of Higher Education has approved two new majors for the Tommy and Victoria Baker School of Business. Students are now able to earn degrees in Management and Marketing and Business Development.

New faculty members join the BSB
The Baker School of Business welcomes five new faculty members for the 2020-2021 academic year. Additionally, we have four GA's who are assisting us this semester.

Band of Gold
Members of the Class of '21 are proud to now have their Bands of Gold. The seniors received their Citadel rings on Sept. 25. Because of COVID-19, the ceremony was restricted to only ring-eligible seniors due to the need for social distancing. The students' parents and families were able to watch the ceremony via a live video stream. Additionally, they were able to view the photo gallery from the event.

Hampton Rowe, a BSB student, was one of the seniors to receive his ring. His Band of Gold holds the initials of a friend that committed suicide the summer before arriving as a knob.

Jaye Goosby Smith, Ph.D. was re-appointed and re-inducted as Honorary Commander for Naval Information Warfare Center- Atlantic as part of the Joint Base Charleston Honorary Commander program. Additionally, she gave a virtual presentation entitled "Presentation of Academic Self: A self-reflexive look at Black female professors’ experienced role stress and inclusion along the tenure journey" at the Black Doctoral Network Conference.

David Desplaces, Ph.D. produced a podcast on what it means to be a Certified Global Business Professional (CGBP). His guest was Rene Dentiste Mueller from the Global Business Resource Center.

Tracey Sigler, Ph.D. was accepted into the Leadership Charleston, Class of 2021 program.

Jeremy Bennett, Ph.D. was tapped to serve on the Board of Directors of the Georgia State University Alumni Association. 

Will Money, Ph.D. gave a presentation entitled "Integration of Information Systems: Robotic Process Automation" during the virtual joint conference of the Education Special Interest Group and the Information System Applied Research (EDSIGCON | CONISAR 2020).

Richard Ebeling, Ph.D. has been named 2020 president of the Society for the Development of Austrian Economics (SDAE). He will deliver his presidential address, entitled "Austrian Economics in a Time of Economic and Social Crisis," during the association's virtual meeting in New Orleans which will be held November 21-23.

Maria Aselage, MBA was named chairperson of the Camp Rise Above Board of Directors.
