Hello,

Derbyshire Dales CVS Email Newsletter

This week we held our Online Networking for Matlock and surrounding area. We had speakers from Strictly No Falling, Foundation Derbyshire and Derbyshire Borderline Personality Group. It was a really interesting morning and we all went away with a new piece of information or a contact to follow up.

It will soon be time for our Annual General Meeting which is likely to be the middle of November, and on Zoom. If your group is a Member of Derbyshire Dales CVS, you will receive your invitation in due course. If you are thinking about running your own AGM on Zoom, you may find this information from the Charity Commission useful. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus- ...

We have the grants document ths week and you can download the latest version, as a PDF, here. Community Grants.

In terms of community activity in the Dales, we are very happy to discuss any concerns you have about re-starting your activities, or perhaps you are thinking about running your group differently in the short-term.

Firstly, we would encourage you to speak to your usual venue and read over the new guidelines around hiring the space, as this may influence your decision. Secondly, we suggest you talk to both your committee / regular volunteers and your members / participants. We have put together a couple of surveys that you can download as PDFs from our website and use to consult with both your committee and your members. The link for the Committees is here and the separate survey for members is here – this one focuses on what members would like to see in place, for activities to restart.

And, as you will no doubt appreciate, the picture can change at any time. Any questions please contact Sarah or Jonathan at CVS, email enquiries@ddcvs.org.uk

We continue to work a mixture of remotely and in the office so the answerphone, post-box and email address are checked regularly. Please ring or email in advance if you need to arrange to come in to see us as the picture can change. Contact the team on 01629 812154 or email enquiries@ddcvs.org.uk

The coronavirus pandemic is still affecting many aspects of our lives here in Derbyshire.

Public sector partners across Derby and Derbyshire have set up an online survey so that you can tell them how you are feeling and what more could be done to help.

Information given by you will help the public sector understand what the pandemic has meant for you and your community and, importantly, to understand more about the things they can do to support Derbyshire through the challenges of coronavirus.

The survey will take around 10 to 15 minutes to complete, and you can find it here.

The survey closes on 6 November.

This questionnaire may also be available in other formats by emailing haveyoursay@derbyshire.gov.uk

Would you like to connect with people when you can’t meet up right now? Or would you like to let more people know who you are and what you are doing?

We recently launched our new Digital Connections project at the CVS as we know that many people in the Derbyshire Dales are isolated, missing out on social contact, information and activities online. And we would like to help bring you together!

  •  Are you a community group member, who would like a Digital Buddy to help you share information more easily and make activities available to more people?

  •  Do you have members on low incomes, or with disabilities, who need a device and the skills to use it?

  •  Do you need additional kit for your or your members, for example support for people with a hearing loss?

Then we can help! Please download the infographic which tells you more about our project and why we feel it is so important. Please get in touch with Jonathan at CVS, email jonathan@ddcvs.org.uk if you would like to be involved, to find out more.

The Better Derbyshire Dales Fund is in its fifth year of awarding small grants to voluntary and community groups in the Dales.

The fund is a mixture of money from the Derbyshire Dales District Council, the North Derbyshire Clinical Commissioning Group and Derbyshire County Council – Public Health.

Over the years it has funded all sort of projects and activities locally including contributing towards activities for members of the Parkinson’s UK Ashbourne branch, DBS checks, training and insurance for Wirksworth Junior Table Tennis Club, new chairs for Starkholmes Village Hall as well as the running costs of several lunch clubs.

The Better Derbyshire Dales Fund has quarterly rounds throughout the year with the next being Thursday 12th November 2020.

Voluntary organisations can apply for up to £5,000 of capital costs and/or £1,000 of revenue costs for their project.

If you would like to find out more about the fund and how your group might apply to this grant-scheme please contact Jonathan Simcock or Sarah Paisley at Derbyshire Dales CVS on 01629 812154 or email enquiries@ddcvs.org.uk

Wed 14th Oct - Wed 14th Oct

3:00pm - 4:30pm

Derbyshire NHS Derby and Derbyshire Clinical Commissioning Group are wanting to talk to people to understand what they can do to improve musculoskeletal services across Derbyshire.

Musculoskeletal (MSK) physiotherapists provide advice and treatment for a wide range of orthopedic and rheumatologically conditions that affect joints, muscles, ligaments and tendons. In Derbyshire there are currently multiple providers of these services, and it may be confusing for people knowing how to get the right care and treatment.

This is an excellent opportunity to get involved in designing what services might look like in Derbyshire at an early stage. The first session will take place via Microsoft Teams (information on how to use this platform will be provided). If you would like to book on, or if you would like more information about the session, or the review, please contact Karen Lloyd at Joined Up Care Derbyshire. Email: Karen.lloyd24@nhs.net

Rural Action Derbyshire has launched Suicide Awareness Training as a new package of digital learning consisting of individual e-learning via a video link and group virtual training delivered on Zoom. We believe that suicide is everybody’s concern, and that individual tragedies can be prevented.

This free training is supported by funding from Derbyshire County Council.

The training consists of both individual online e-learning and a group virtual training session delivered via Zoom. The e-learning consists of three short modules which take approximately 1 hour to complete in total and which MUST be completed prior to attending the half-day group virtual training. The training package enables participants to:
• Examine their own and society’s attitudes to suicide
• Find out about (and challenge) the myths that surround suicide
• Discover possible suicide risk factors and warning signs
• Find out how they might help someone at risk of suicide
• Share learning with other people working and volunteering in Derbyshire

This event is only available for people in Derbyshire (excluding Derby City) working either in a paid or voluntary capacity with the public (particularly vulnerable groups at greater risk of suicide and self-harm) or acting as community representatives. Please note that registering your place on Eventbrite does not guarantee a place for you on the course. Registrations will be reviewed to ensure that places are given to delegates who meet the above criteria.

RAD has already given first opportunity to reserve places to people who were booked on courses that had to be cancelled earlier this year, so available places will initially be very limited. Due to the nature of this training, numbers have also been reduced so there is likely to be a much higher demand than there are places available in the short-term. Therefore RAD will not be able to offer more than two places per organisation per date.

To see availability and request a place please follow the links below for each date and complete the registration process. A link to the e-learning will be sent to you when your place is confirmed.
