Hearing Loss Barriers on the Job?
Find Help in HLAA's Employment Toolkit

Hearing loss can present barriers when you're working or looking for work. How do I ask for hearing accommodation? What laws protect me in the workplace? How and when do I disclose my hearing loss when I'm job searching?

The HLAA Employment toolkit has answers to these questions and more. Visit this free page for resources during October, National Disability Employment Awareness Month, and anytime you need it.

Need Zoom Help?

We still hear questions about using Zoom for online webinars, meetings, and events, so here are some quick tutorials to boost your confidence.
  • First, use a computer, if possible, rather than a smartphone or an iPad. This will give you a better layout to view captions.
  • Joining a webinar is really just clicking through till you get there. Read a quick tutorial here. Or visit Senior Planet's Zoom help page.
  • For troubleshooting specific problems (like your camera not working, sound not working, testing, and testing Zoom ahead of time), click here.
  • Viewing Zoom captions can be a little tricky, especially if the chat is open. For help, watch this video.

Nursing Home Loop Connects Residents and Visitors

People in residential care homes have become more isolated during pandemic, as visitors are sometimes not allowed. This UK nursing home created visitor "pods" to let visitors safely connect with residents--and the pods have a hearing loop. Read more in this story.

Stay Home, Stay Connected

Until we can attend in-person events again, we have hearing-friendly ways to be entertained and stay connected at home. Most are live-captioned, and all have captions added in the recorded versions. We keep an updated list for you on our website.

New this issue: The 5th Avenue Theater in Seattle is hosting a series of virtual/online concerts with some pretty big stars: Patti LuPone (October 24), Laura Benanti (November 14) and Vanessa Williams (December 5.) Captions will be available.
