Chi Rho Berry Sales Fundraiser

Ontario Berries (wild blueberries, raspberries, wild strawberries
(individually, quick frozen)

Jim, from Fern’s Frozen Fruit, has e-mailed the following changes for this year:
  • The strange days we find ourselves in have impacted the operations at Fern’s Frozen Fruit, but we are happy to report we will be supplying our family of fundraisers yet again.
  • We have had to change our supply network somewhat.  This year we are proudly offering fruit grown in Ontario!! All the fruit is cleaned and fast frozen.
  • All fruit will be supplied in labelled 1 kg bags.
  • The smaller size may appeal to some customers with limited freezer space at home.
  • We realize there is a small cost increase, and are hopeful this does not impact your sales too dramatically.
     Wild Blueberries      1 kg bag   _____   bag(s) @ $12.00  =    $_______
     Raspberries             1 kg bag   _____   bag(s) @ $12.00  =    $_______
     Wild Strawberries    1 kg bag   _____   bag(s) @ $12.00  =    $_______

Note: This is probably Chi Rho’s last chance to fund raise to help us reach our goal of $2,000 to present to the Church’s General Fund.

The Rune of Hospitality

'I saw a stranger yestreen
I put food in the eating place
drink in the drinking place
music in the listening place
And in the sacred name of the Triune
He blessed myself and my house
my cattle and my dear ones
And the lark said in her song often often often
Goes the Christ in stranger's guise often often often
Goes the Christ in stranger's guise'

(Carmina Gadelica)

God of all things,

We made it another week despite the fact that 7 days ago I wasn’t sure how. So thanks for that.

I have some pretty big fears about the future right now, Lord. I mean, some really catastrophic notions about what might happen.

If I could ask this one thing – please remind me that this moment right now, the one where the light has just broken the line between ground and sky, when all I can hear is the motor of the fridge and the clicking of that cheap wall clock I got from Ikea, when I am in my robe and half my coffee is still sitting warmly in my mug, is the only thing that is real.

Bring me back to this moment. Convict me of the fact that there is nothing I can do about the past, and that the days to come are never as real as the day I’m in.  Because those fears of mine are starting to feel like a monster from the future that shows up each day and steals the joy, the peace and the pleasure of the present. And we are in the middle of a global pandemic right now and I need those things, Lord! Help me vanquish the fear monster. If indeed perfect love casts out fear, then remind me that you already love me in the days to come as you always have from the day of my birth to the day of my death.

This is the day that you have made. THIS day. Help me rejoice and be glad in it.

Amen.

The Rune of Hospitality is taken from the Carmina Gadelica, a collection of prayers, hymns, incantations, blessings, runes, and other literary poems and songs collected and translated by Alexander Carmichael (1832-1912) in the Gaelic-speaking regions of Scotland between 1855 and 1910. The Rune of Hospitality is a blessing for those that offer their hospitality to all including the stranger. 'Yestreen' is a Scots word for yesterday evening and the 'Triune' refers to the Christian Trinity. Click on the image for a beautiful recording of this poem/blessing on YouTube.

Resources

First published in 1989, this treasury of prayers, rituals, and spiritual guidance from best-selling author and teacher Edward Hays is a celebration of the divine presence that unites all people and faiths of the world. Drawing from his life-long, planetary pilgrimage of spiritual discovery, Hays urges readers out of the narrow mindset of praying for one's personal needs into a way of prayer that is both global and cosmic. Poetic psalms, poignant blessings, and original rituals provide creative prayer experiences for the days of the week, the seasons of the year, and the extraordinary days of life. Discover why spiritual pilgrims of all faiths have found Edward Hays to be a wise and compassionate guide. Read an excerpt here.

May God write a message upon your heart,
bless and direct you,
then send you out
living letters of the Word.
Amen.
