October 2020 eNews

We Are here to welcome you for just two more days!
Now we resume planning for 2021 and beyond.
Would you like to be part of it?

Reporting on the Annual General Meeting

Long-delayed due to the current Pandemic, the Annual General Meeting of the Cobourg Museum Foundation took place via a Zoom webinar on September 23, 2020.  Highlights included the addition of a new Board member.  Janice Mononen, who has served for two years on the Exhibit Team, will be joining the six others who will be remaining: Joan Chalovich, Mary Dunphy, Ken Willcocks, Elgin Ball, Allan Seymour and Leona Woods.

Brief reports reviewed the activities of 2019, acknowledging that 2020 has been very different, though the Heritage Centre did open on a reduced basis starting on July 18.  The Financial Statement showed that in 2019 income had just covered expenditures.  All the reports can be viewed by clicking HERE.

Possibly garnering more attention than the meeting itself was the showing of our latest video production, “The Cobourg Conspiracy”.  It was followed by an interesting question and answer session with the four creative people involved in the video’s production.  You can view the video HERE

Last Weekend for Visiting in 2020

October 10 & 11 will provide the last opportunity for visiting the Heritage Centre this year.  Our hours are 10-5 on Saturday and 1-5 on Sunday.  We would love to have you drop in for one last visit before the exhibits are stored away again in the Cottage basement.

We want to say a special thank you to all those who made this shortened season possible: the faithful guides; those who kept the grounds and flags in order and looking great; the railway maintenance crew; all our members and donors; the Exhibit Team whose work is just beginning again; and, of course, all who visited or encouraged others to come.

It was a different kind of season, not just for us but for almost everyone, and we look forward to better times to come!  If you would like to be part of them as a volunteer (we're all volunteers!) please contact Mary by email:  info@cobourgmuseum.ca

Unveiling the Fern Blodgett Sunde Statue

On Saturday, October 17 this very special statue on our waterfront will be unveiled before a few specially invited guests - but you will be able to be there too as the event will be streamed online as it is happening.

Your Museum Foundation has partnered with a Citizens Group and sculptor Tyler Fauvelle to honour one of Cobourg’s real heroes and those who served with her during the crucial WWII Battle of the Atlantic.  To learn Fern’s story, click HERE, and to watch the unveiling on Saturday, starting at 1:15pm, check out:

History Timeline to Disappear?

There is so much on our website that some interesting items get completely overlooked.  One such is the interactive timeline of Cobourg History.  Unfortunately, support for the program is ending and it may soon disappear, so you are encourage to view it before that happens.  It can be found at the bottom of our “Cobourg History” page but HERE is a direct link.

We are looking at options for a replacement and perhaps we’ll find one which works even better.

Come see what everyone is talking about and sign the Centre's guestbook!
