Dear <<Name>>,

Have you ever thought about taking my Inspired Abstract workshop, but hesitated to take the plunge? If so, here are some real-life answers to possible questions.

Kirby's Loving Eyes
Julie Bernstein Engelmann, 18"H x 24"W, acrylic on hot pressed paper. Available

My fall workshop is this Thursday, October 15-17, and there's room for a few more to attend. So I just wanted to entice you by answering any doubts!

Doubt 1: Do I really want to spend three days on Zoom?
Ha, that was my big question too. It turns out it's fine! For one thing it's not exactly all day, in that there are breaks and we finish by 4:30. For another, there's quite a bit of interaction and, well, action. So it's not like just sitting there. You move around and paint and get whatever you need and come back, that kind of thing. You can even listen to music while painting (just mute your Zoom mic).

Doubt 2: Is it complicated, setting up for both painting and Zoom, plus the online forum?
This has turned out pretty easy for everyone so far. I provide setup tips, the Sedona Arts Center offers Zoom support, and the forum is super easy. You will need to be able to take photos of your painting-in-progress and post them to the forum, because I annotate the photos to demonstrate points.

Doubt 3: Will I get real personal attention?

Absolutely! Class size is limited to 12, and I try to address each individual's intentions, needs, and strengths, just as I would in person. This is a live, interactive workshop.

All of the slides that we go over in class are posted in the Resources section of the forum, so you can review and download them, along with handouts and a video reminder of the techniques. If you continue to work on your paintings after the workshop, you're welcome to post followup photos or questions for feedback over the next couple of weeks.

The Inspired Abstract
Birth your beloved and mysterious artwork
3-day online workshop with Julie Bernstein Engelmann
Through the Sedona Arts Center - held over Zoom
October 15, 16, and 17 (Thur-Sat), 2020

This workshop gives you a powerful foundation for abstract painting. Using layers, you’ll be guided to enter the painting process naturally, develop a deep and luscious visual space, and weave into it exquisite brush-marks that grow from a personally meaningful inspiration. You’ll learn to see the spirit in your painting and gently enhance it, so it can shine powerfully.

A focus of this workshop is to find ease in bringing your mid-process abstract “beautiful mess” to completion.

You’ll create two acrylic paintings that embody meaning, naturalness, and spatial depth and flow – qualities that lift an abstract painting from amateur to professional
