Malahide - New Street - Cycling and Walking Improvements

Dublin Cycling Campaign made a submission to Fingal County Council about the alternative proposal for New Street, Malahide. This is an intermediate design for Malahide while two options go out to full consultation next year. Option 1 would be full pedestrianisation and Option 2 would be pedestrianisation during the summer and this alternative proposal after summer time.

Active School Travel - New Safe Walking and Cycling Routes

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council are proposing a network of connected routes to schools with the primary goal of enabling schoolchildren to walk and cycle. It will consist of quiet streets and some new segregated cycle lanes. If you live in the area, we encourage you to make a supportive submission and to spread the word within your local networks.

Hundreds of people tuned into the live webinars and watched the recordings to catch the many fascinating insights across a broad range of professional perspectives. Listen back to people from An Taisce Green-Schools, Department of Public Health, Dublin Chamber of Commerce, Dublin City Council, Dublin Cycling Campaign, European Cyclists’ Federation, Fingal County Council, National Transport Authority, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, South Dublin County Council, and TU Dublin.

The coordinators of the series (Vinnie and Conor) would like to sincerely thank everyone who presented, chaired, shared, helped out, tuned in, commented, or asked questions leading up to, or throughout the week.

Cyclist.ie Newsbits

Following the ambitious cycling commitments in the Programme for Government (PfG) published in June, Cyclist.ie will be keeping a very close eye on Budget 2021, to be announced on Tuesday 13th Oct 2020. You can read Cyclist.ie’s detailed Pre-Budget Submission here. Of great importance in (re-)creating strong cycling cultures are cycle network plans (also mentioned in the PfG) and you can read this article by Jo Sachs-Eldridge from Leitrim Cycling Festival on such plans based on her experience in Wales. In other news, Cyclist.ie is seeking an academic partner in connection with the Irish Research Council's 'New Foundation' funding scheme - do please spread the word on this. And plenty more happening!

News from the European Cyclists’ Federation

Breakthrough!! For the first time in the history of the EU, railway companies will be obliged to provide dedicated space for bicycles on all new and refurbished trains. This is the outcome of the negotiations for the recasting of the Rail Passengers’ Rights and Obligations Regulation that ended on the 2nd of October 2020. ECF intensively advocated over the past three years on the strengthening of the existing regulation which didn't include any enforceable provision with regards to bicycles.
