From the Director

Dear DRIMB Parents/Guardians—

I hope you are having a great fall season so far! We continue to work hard in the DRHS music program to make music and build connections in unique ways during this school year.

As we continue to make our way through the year, every so often I receive notes from parents/guardians asking about ways they can get involved with our program. Even during this weird time, we still have ways that families can jump in and volunteer. Please reach out to me or any of our amazing booster organization board members if you have any questions.

This Thursday is parent/guardian/teacher conferences for DRHS from 12PM-7PM. I have reached out to families individually if there is a pressing need to meet, but if you would like to schedule a Zoom meeting to meet with me, please send me an email and I will send you instructions. You can always send me an email with any general questions as well.

Thank you so much for all of your support so far during this year!

From our Booster Board

Hello Music Families,

We hope everyone is staying safe and healthy!
Bingo
We know we talk a lot about bingo, and we don’t like to bring it up all the time, but it is imperative for the continuation of our program. These past few weeks it has been difficult to fill the volunteer positions for bingo. Please keep in mind we are required to fill these sessions all year on both Friday and Sunday nights. If we do not fill the positions we lose money because we still have to pay the bingo hall rental. We need at least 2 parents, a caller, and 4-6 students each night.

We want to extend a huge Thank you, to the few families that have been working sessions almost weekly or even more than once in a weekend!!!  Thank you to Carrie Forrester for sending out the Reminds and getting the positions filled each week!

Bingo is our largest, and right now only, source of income for all of the programs including Marching Band, Winter Guard, Winter Percussion, Symphonic Band, and Jazz Band. If we do not continue to work bingo, and are forced to drop a session or both sessions, we will not be able to get these time slots back for future fundraising. The slots will go to other groups, and we would end up with times that are not as lucrative or without a time slot at all. Several people have brought up the fact that we are not spending as much money this year with activities being cancelled. We understand this, and we currently have the funds to support this year. However, we went 5 ½ months with no income while bingo was closed. Also, with the added guidelines limiting the number of players in the hall, we are not making as much at each session, and we did not charge any fees from families this year. We are still paying for staff, bingo hall rental, and other things such as a copier for Mr. Ford to use for classes as an example. If we lose bingo, we will not be able to support the program next year in the same capacity as previous years, which could change the programs or fees to participate drastically.

New Fundraising Committee
We also understand that with Covid a lot of families do not feel comfortable working bingo. We have been trying to put together a committee to start adding different types of fundraisers to possibly replace working 2 nights a week of bingo. In addition to finding new fundraisers, this committee will also be developing templates for grant proposals and creating marketing materials to present to potential corporate sponsors. If you do not feel comfortable working bingo, please sign up for this committee to help us work toward replacing or at least supplementing bingo. Please contact Tami Smith with any questions or to signup for the committee. tamilyn23@gmail.com

Marching Band T-Shirts
Marching Band T-Shirts designed by the students for all of the Marching Band members are here, and students will be receiving them this week! Additional shirts for parents and other family members are $11.00 each and will be ordered in a second order. More details will be coming soon on placing orders.

Other Volunteering Needs
*We are still in need of a Treasurer on the board. We are in need of one or two people to fill this position ASAP. Please let us know if you are interested.
*New Bingo Managers are needed to start training soon. Several of our current bingo managers are senior parents. These positions need to be filled for next year, and we would like to start training for these positions while the senior parents are still around to train and aid in the certification process.

Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions or concerns.

Thank you,
Tami Smith and Lorey Bratten
