READING

The Leaves Fall All Around by Steve Page Mack:

Find a cozy place by a window with your child and read Steve Mack’s The Leaves Fall All Around to embrace the changing season. His lyrical use of repetition and alliteration presents concepts like color, size, and temperature as you talk about colorful leaves, big pumpkins, and cold, windy weather.

Go Vote, Baby! by Nancy R. Lambert & Anne Passchier:

As Americans prepare to cast their ballots next month to determine the next President of the United States, babies and toddlers are casting their own ballots: should I choose the dog shirt or the cat shirt? Do I want to play with puzzles or blocks? Presenting your child with appropriate options is a great way to encourage communication as they learn to exercise their power of choice.

GROSS MOTOR

Fall is a wonderful time to get out with your baby or toddler and explore the properties of leaves while developing gross motor skills. Examine the color, shape and size of various leaves with your toddler. Let them touch and crinkle the leaves with their hands. Practice gross motor skills by finding or raking a big pile of leaves. Let your toddler jump and stomp on the leaves or squat down to pick them up.
ART

It is fall and the leaves are starting to change colors. This is a great time to talk about and explore the different colors, shapes, and textures we find on them. Using leaves you have either found outside or cut from construction paper, bring the colors into your home by having your child glue the leaves onto a paper plate or stick them onto clear sticky contact paper. Talk about the differences and similarities of the leaves, talk about the size, and shape, talk about the texture of the leaves you find. Have fun, and hang your child’s creation to help decorate your home for the fall.
PS. As we face this pandemic, philanthropic support is more crucial than ever! Gifts of all amounts will make a significant impact. Please consider making a gift today to help meet the most urgent needs of our Boyer community.
