On June 13th, 2018, our family suffered a heart-breaking and tremendous loss with the passing of our son, William Seamus Hughes, from aggressive pediatric brain cancer. Willie and our community of supporters became known as “Willie Strong” because of Willie’s legendary positive spirit, wisdom, and his incredibly strong fight against his illness.
Willie wanted to live and would have done anything to have more time. Unfortunately 6 brain surgeries, multiple rounds of chemo, 86 radiation treatments, and 3 clinical trials across this country could not save him. That is why we have decided to continue his fight and help our brain cancer doctors, researchers and immunologists at Children’s National continue to search for better treatments and, hopefully, a cure for some for these aggressive pediatric brain tumors. We don’t want any child to suffer the way Willie did and so many do with this devastating disease.
We founded the Willie Strong Foundation with this mission and we are grateful to all of you who have joined the battle with us with your financial support, campaign efforts and participation.
