TCS Times

Nau mai, haere mai ngā whānau o te kura o Tahatai.  A very warm welcome to all our TCS students and their families.

It was fantastic to see such a large turnout to last week's final pōhiri for this year, where we welcomed our new students and whānau. Starting the term in such a positive way sets a positive tone from the outset. The result has been a very settled school environment with students connected and actively engaged with their learning.

A reminder that there is a 'Teacher Only Day' this Friday 23rd October. The day is part of a settlement between the NZEI and the Ministry of Education, providing invaluable time for teachers to stay on top of their ever-increasing administrative workloads. We apologise for any challenges this may place on your family, but I do greatly appreciate your ongoing support for our amazing teaching staff.

There is a lot of property improvements planned for term 4. The administration building is on hold as we seek additional funding to cover the costs of this weather-tightness project. The delay is incredibly disappointing but completely out of our hands. Again, I'd like to thank you for your understanding and patience as we navigate our way through the many barriers and policies associated with the Ministry of Education property projects. On a more exciting note, you would have seen huge progress with our four roll growth classroom development. The Kids' Club building and the bike track container have now been relocated. This has cleared the space for where the new classrooms will be relocated. As they are modular, they are already being built offsite, and we cannot wait to have these additional learning spaces for the start of 2021. The final property works intended for this term are set to start at the end of November. These include the new senior playground, basketball court, and caretaker shed extension.
This week, Tahatai Coast School has been gifted a brand new trailer. This will be an amazing resource for our school - supporting camps, transporting surf club surfboards, and for our caretaker to utilise. Thank you so much to Justin Dufty, of Omega BOP Windows and Doors, and Tony Smith, of Smith's Meat Company for your generosity and support!
Our wonderful PTA has set Wednesday 2nd December as the date to celebrate Xmas with our children and school community. Xmas on the Field (XOTF) is our major community event of the year and we really want to have a big send off to 2020 by coming together as a community. The key to the success of XOTF is the collective efforts and contributions we make as a community. If you are able to help out in any way, please contact pta@tahatai.school.nz

Important Reminder: Teacher Only Day

A quick reminder that the school will be closed for tuition this Friday, 23rd October.  This is a Teacher Only Day which is a part of the Teachers' Union negotiation with the Ministry of Education.  The day will be used to support teachers with managing their workload.

Mufti Day - Next Friday

We will be holding a mufti day next Friday, 30th October (Week 3).  This will be a 'Dress up as your Favourite Hero' day.  We are asking for a gold coin donation for this mufti day.  All money raised will go towards the 'I Ride With Hame Trust'.  This trust is organised by our caretaker, Greg Rieger.  All money raised goes towards providing scholarships for Year 12 students to go on the Spirit of Adventure.

Urgent message
re:New Entrant Enrolments

Do you have a child turning 5 later this year or during 2021?

We urgently need an indication of how many 5 year olds we will be expecting to start school in 2021. If you have a child due to start school next year, please come and see us to complete the enrolment paperwork.

This helps us to plan a smooth transition into school for your child; helps us to plan staffing for the New Entrant classes; and ensures that you are invited to the relevant parent information meetings. Thank you.

Our Term 4 student electives started this week.  Please see an outline of the electives on offer at Tahatai below.  There is no cost to attend any of our electives, just to come long with a positive attitude, a willingness to listen and to learn.  Thanks to the teachers that put themselves forward to take an elective.
