Give Online
Online giving is now available from the comfort of you home or when you're on the road. Click the Give Online button above, or download the Give Plus Mobile App on you phone or tablet, to make a one-time offering or to set up a recurring donation. You decide how much to give and when.
A PASSCODE HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE ZOOM LINKS FOR THE SUNDAY MORNING AND WEDNESDAY EVENING SERVICES.
The change was made to make joining our services easier, and to eliminate the need to wait for the host to admit you. Here's how it works:
Click on the link here, or the link on the website, to join the meeting. That's it!

PLEASE NOTE:
1 - You may be asked for a passcode. Enter the 6-digit passcode below your meeting link.

2 - Occasionally, you may have a new screen appear asking you to confirm you birthdate, or which account you would like to use to connect to the meeting. These are simply security questions from the Zoom program on your computer and you can ignore them. Click the 'X' in the top right or left corner to close the message. From there, you can continue to the Zoom service.

3 - Please call the church office at 805-544-2133 if you need assistance. The phone is answered by a real person, even on Wednesday evening and Sunday morning.

Thank you
Please use the links listed here to join any of our worship services and Bible studies. We look forward to seeing you!

WORD
First Reading: Isaiah 45:1-7
The prophet announces that Cyrus the Persian emperor is the one the Lord has anointed to end Israel’s exile. The Lord makes this choice so that the whole world will recognize this Lord as the only God. Persia had a god of light and a god of darkness; the Lord claims sovereignty over both light and darkness.

Psalm 96

Second Reading: 1 Thessalonians 1:1-10
Most likely this letter is the first written by Paul. Paul gives pastoral encouragement and reassurances to new Christians living in an antagonistic environment. Their commitment of faith, love, and hope makes them a model for other new Christian communities.

Alleluia Verse
Holy Gospel: Matthew 22:15-22

Sermon - Pastor Richard Rollefson
Hymn of the Day - Lift Every Voice and Sing - ELW 841

Affirmation of Faith
We belong to the Creator in whose image we are all made.
In God we are breathing, in God we are living, in God we share the life of all creation.

We belong to Jesus Christ, the true icon of God and of humanity.
In him God is breathing, in him God is living, through him we are reconciled.

We belong to the Holy Spirit, who gives us new life and strengthens our faith.
In the Spirit love is breathing, in the Spirit truth is living, the breath of God always moves us.

We belong to the Holy Trinity, who is one in all and Three-in-One.
In God we are all made, in Christ we are all saved, in the Spirit we are all united.

October Schedule
A God’s Eye View of Government and Our Part in It

The ELCA Church Council has drafted a new Social Statement “Government and Civic Engagement in the United States:  Discipleship in a Democracy” and is asking all congregations to read and discuss it before the November elections.  It will be the subject of our Adult Forums for the first three Sundays in October.  Since we are in a Zoom setting, it will be important to read the statement before the Adult Forums—the reading for this week is Pages 1 – 8. Click on the links below to view and/or download the reading material and schedule for the series.
Please click the image above to schedule your appointment.
Would you like help getting your completed ballot to the Post Office or County Elections Office? Or perhaps you would like transportation to vote in person? The Saturday Morning Men’s Group at Mt. Carmel are glad to assist. Please contact Bob Grosse at 805-543-5691, or email cgrosse@charter.net, to schedule a ride, or to ask them to mail or deliver your ballot for you.
We also need volunteers to help at the following times: (volunteers must wear masks and gloves)

Friday, 10/30: 5-6pm (making treat bags on the patio)
Saturday, 10/31: 3-4pm (decorating the parking lot)
Saturday 10/31: 4-5pm (handing out treat bags)

Matching Gifts Challenge Benefitting the SLO County Food Bank

Use this link to donate to the Mount Carmel matching funds challenge

If you prefer to donate to the matching funds challenge by check, make your check out to the SLO County Food Bank. Write Mt. Carmel Matching Funds Drive on the memo line so that your donation will be properly credited.  Mail to:

Food Bank Coalition of SLO County
1180 Kendall Road
San Luis Obispo, CA 93401

Please do not route your food bank donations through Mount Carmel.  Doing so will delay your donation and make tracking the matching funds challenge donations difficult for the food bank.

Thank you to Mount Carmel for your always generous spirit!
