DONATE TO KEEP OAKLAND WALKABLE AND BIKEABLE
This has been an unprecedented year. We miss you! We hope you have been well during these stressful and uncertain times. One thing the current health crisis has highlighted is the importance of infrastructure that allows people to bike and walk safely. Bike shops throughout the country have been reporting a spike in sales as people look for ways to get around and exercise safely. With such a protracted shelter-in-place, people still need to move about to essential work, to stores, and to complete errands.
Many of our in person events like Women's Bicycling Workshops and Bike To Work Day celebrations were cancelled, impacting sponsorships and membership drives that supported much of WOBO's operations.
Despite it all, WOBO has kept its wheels rolling, and we are still making progress.
- We continue to hold conversations with community members, neighborhood groups, advocacy allies, and city leadership and staff to advance safety projects (e.g., Foothill, Lakeside Drive, Grand Avenue, Adeline, 23rd, Park Blvd).
- Our volunteers and leadership contributed over 400 hours to support and implement Oakland's Slow Streets, including pro bono graphics design for all Slow Streets signage.
- We pushed for evolving Slow Streets to target neighborhood-based solutions, including putting traffic calming treatments and artwork at and near essential destinations like libraries and grocery stores.
- Our most popular Ride Like a Girl workshop went virtual.
- We are working on Oakland's policies to allow automatic speed limits near school and senior residential sites.
- WOBO produced multiple letters of support for grant applications for funding streetscape, bikeways, and e-bike projects.
- We made Bike To Work Day into a mostly virtual Bike To Wherever Day in September. (see update below)
It's hard to SEE our accomplishments in this virtual environment. But rest assured that WOBO continues to push to make Oakland an exceptional city to walk, roll, stroll, and bike.
Make your end of year donation today. Consider doubling your donation with a company match! During these trying times, we need your continued support so we can carry on doing this important work.

SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS COMING TO EASTLAKE
The E. 15th St./Foothill Blvd. corridor east of Lake Merritt is slated for paving and safety improvements in the near future. This corridor is home to Franklin Elementary School and Recreation Center, one of the largest schools in OUSD, as well as a dense community of homes and churches. For updates on these improvements, we recommend you sign up for District 2 Councilmember Nikki Fortunato Bas's newsletter.
