Hunger is Not Just A Third-World Problem

How can there be hunger in the United States when we know that there is a surfeit of food in our fields, in our feedlots, and in our stores? Hunger is the hidden scandal of our nation and all of us must reflect prayerfully on what we can do to bring this scandal to an end.

Why are people hungry in ‘normal’ times in America, that is, times when there is no pandemic raging, when the economy is strong, and natural disasters are not wreaking havoc in more than one part of the country?

Weekly Wisdom
In his Wednesday, October 14th homily, Fr. Yesalonia urges us, in choosing which path to walk alongwhether it is the one that is lit by "love, joy, peace, and patience" or the one that is guided by self-interestto eschew the middle of the road. We must, instead, "make a fuller commitment" and "[l]et our consciences guide us to ways in which manifest the light and the glory of God."

During the early days of the pandemic when the church was closed, our cantor, Philip Anderson, recorded this spontaneous, beautiful rendition of How Can I Keep From Singing. It's one of our favorite hymns, and the message is as timely now as it was last spring.
