Welcome to our special October 2020 Newsletter. This one is special because we have a bid going to Barnet Council this week and wanted to let you know all about it plus news of our first Friends Zoom meeting on Tuesday 13th October at 7pm and our monthly litter picks are back with one on Sunday 11th Ocotber at 4pm.

There is a lot more going onand we will send that news out next weekend when we know the result of the bid along with the link to our Friends Zoom meeting.
 

£20,000 Improvement bid being considered this Thursday


The Friends of Cherry Tree Wood has made a bid for funds to Barnet Council for £20,000 and it is being considered this coming Thursday.

The bid is being considered by the Finchley and Golders Green Area Committee. The report is being supported by local Councillor Alison Moore and can be found here:  https://barnet.moderngov.co.uk/documents/s60424/Members%20Item%20Application%20for%20CIL%20Funding.pdf

Our bid is for the following items:
  • Provision of 3 new dual sentinel litter bins;
  • Refurbishment of two raised flower beds by the tea kiosk; once refurbished these will be replanted and maintained under an Adopt a Place Agreement by the Friends;
  • New noticeboard to be managed in future by the Friends;Provision of a nature trail for under 10’s within the Wood;
  • Provision of a ‘granular surface’ from the Summerlee Avenue entrance to the rear gate of the children’s playground. This is currently very worn and in places is prone to be a mud bath.
  • Provision of a water fountain to serve both people and for dogs located near the kiosk.
  • Improve drainage by noticeboard
  • Purchase of a bat monitor
  • Planting of willow area to produce crop for basket weaving

Sunday 11th October at 4pm: Litterpick.
Meet at the Summerlee Avenue gate.


Bring your own gloves and pickers if you have them. We will supply if needed and if you want to litter pick at your own time we can supply you with a picker and bag hoop to take away with you. This litterpick will be undertaken using latest COVID 19 precautions.
