THE McMILLAN COFFEE MORNING ON SEPTEMBER 6th
This event, hosted by the team at the Springfield allotment garden was a great success, raising £161 for the McMillan Cancer Support charity. The gazebo that had been bought was sited on the broad grass verge outside of the allotment and this housed all the cakes and raffle prizes in the dry, while in effect keeping the allotment private by being accessed only though the gazebo. This was an excellent solution to catering for many BSG members and contacts and at the same time picking up passing trade. It is thought that this could be a model for other events in the future.

Chris Hassal's apple trees at Landcross are groaning under the weight of the fruit and he would love to share this bounty. To get in touch with Chris, email him on hassalc@ymail.com or by telephoning 01237 425357
On the road from Bideford to Torringtion, the drive to Chris's place is on the right just after crossing the bridge over the river Yeo.

MEETINGS. The Blacksmiths Arms has been undergoing extensive internal works and will not be reopening until the new year. Old Custom House meetings are currently suspended, but lots of people appear to be bumping into each other there, so if you do see someone there that you have met through BSG, maybe take time to sit down and chat. Meetings of up to twenty people from multiple households as we have had in the past are out of the question, but life has to go on; we just have to use our judgement and do all the face and space stuff.

BSG has to have an Annual General Meeting soon, probably some time in November. Tom Wiersma has experience with ZOOM meetings and has offered to set one up for us. When we have decided how this can be done, a notice will go out on mailchimp to paid-up full members only. If you feel you would like to be involved but have not taken the step of paying your £1 joining fee and submitting a signed membership form, click a reply to this email and we will get a form to you. Full membership will enable you to propose or second any of the existing trustees for re-election, take part in the voting or even stand for trusteeship yourself. Full details of how this meeting will be conducted will follow in another email to members.

With not many BSG meetings this year, its good that tending the allotments, orchards and the Honestone car park beds cannot be denied. I am reminded of the story in which a well-meaning vicar looks over the wall at a cottager dealing with his vegetables and remarks " To be sure it is wonderful what the Good Lord can do in a garden" "Aye sir" came the reply " But you should'a seen it when e ad it all to is-self". Anyhow those BSG members not letting that happen to our allotments and orchards have had the benefit of regular opportunities for socialising at a distance and helping people to get out a bit. You've seen what teamwork at the Springfield allotment can do; its been happening at the station allotment and at the Honestone car park as well.

Keep Happy and healthy everyone. We are very fortunate to be living in a low-risk area where life can go on, albeit with some limitations. Let's keep it that way.
