Newsletter Chairman’s Note
Dear Friends

This will be my last note to you all as Chairman of the ESCL so forgive me if I go over some history in these difficult times. It surprises me sometimes to realise that I became Vice President of the ESCL in 2013 back when I was Chairman of the UK SCL and have been in one role or another ever since. In that last 7 years this Society, which was founded in Vienna in 1980, has changed so much. We now have a new set of bye-laws drafted by a great committee of (Monika, Benoit, Gianni, Hugues and Michael) a new formal legal existence in the Hague. In that time we have also added new National Societies in Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and the Ukraine and potential new National Societies in Poland and Turkey. We have a new National Society in Spain that is growing rapidly. The ESCL is now also a member of SCL International and representatives of the ESCL and National Societies have attended the International Congress as well.

It is now time for me to hand over to a new Chairman, although I am hopefully going to be re-elected to the Council, and to the new Council. We now have a very vibrant Council with Evelien (General Secretary), Bastian, Roberto, Michael, Luc and Ovidiu who have all brought so much life and energy to the ESCL. A particular thanks to Evelien and Monika before her who somehow kept me under control. I can only see our Society going from strength to strength under their leadership. Even in adversity Roberto has organised the webinars which have been such an amazing success. Michael organises this newsletter which keeps us all so much better in touch than we used to be and behind the scenes our General Secretary keeps a tight control on everything.

I hope that you all stay well and safe and hope to see as many of you as possible in Sofia if not before.

Best wishes to all and to our great Society.
