A message from the Chair

Chair, IABC Asia Pacific

Member Month. A great time to invest in your career

October is Member Month at IABC. Anyone across the APAC region can join (or renew) IABC membership in October and receive:
  • A discount of 25% off their annual international dues
  • IABC APAC is waiving regional dues for anyone who joins or renews in October
  • Automatic entry into a 2020 IABC Virtual World Conference recording raffle. Five winners will be selected to win a Virtual World Conference recording package of their choice (value USD199).
That sounds great. But, it does raise a question. Why should I join (or re-join) IABC?

Aside from value for money, which is greater than ever in Member Month, there are three key reasons. IABC provides the resources, community and connection you need at every stage in your career.

Resources: Develop your skills with a world of webinars, thought leadership and other content, as you’ll see below. There’s also plenty of global member-only content waiting for you at iabc.com.

Community: Become a prominent member of a global comms community. Enter the Gold Quill Awards, which are kicking off this month. Apply for CMP or SCMP certification, like the many APAC members who are sitting their exams in October. Share your research or thought leadership articles at a chapter, regional or global level. Conduct a webinar. You can even nominate as a Board member or volunteer. The opportunities are endless and the more you put in, the more you’ll get out of your membership.

Connection: Connect with your peers... around the region and around the world. Swap experiences and ideas with your global colleagues at The Hub online community. Have some virtual fun with your colleagues at our quarterly Cross-Regional events and our weekly Mid-Week Comms Drop In. And, hot off the presses, get ready as we're about to blend learning and networking into an exciting new style of event. Keep your eyes peeled later this month.

Furthermore, IABC membership can provide this value at every stage of your career. Whether you’re a young student, a seasoned comms leader or anything in between, IABC can help you.

The resources, community and connection you need at every stage in your career. If that sounds like a good mix, then IABC is the right place for you. And, with discounted member dues, October is definitely the right time as well.

So, why not join us now? Join today using the IABC50 discount code. Check here for more information on your local chapters.

Less than two weeks until our next APAC webinar

When a crisis hits, communicators need a clear narrative. If you believe claims that around 80% of readers never make it past the headline, communicators have a lot of work to do to craft crisis messages that get anything more than a passing glance. In this webinar, presented by Gerry McCusker, you'll learn the three key things you can do to get a better share of the crisis narrative.

IABC APAC and Isentia panel discussions:
The future of comms in two words

During September, IABC APAC and Isentia held two panel sessions looking at the shape of communications in 2021. One session focused on Asia while the other focused on ANZ. These webinars spun out from the recent Comms Agenda 2021 report.

According to this review, a clear and simple message came from these webinars. That is, that the future of comms hinges on two things. What are they? You'll have to read the article to find out. (Hint... technology ISN'T one of them, although it will, of course play a vital role).

There's never been a better time for certification

In such uncertain times, standing out is more important than ever.

So, why not give your career a boost with a  Communication Management Professional (CMP®) or Strategic Communication Management Professional (SCMP®) qualification?

Certification exams are taking place in:
  • Wellington, NZ (14 October)
  • Canberra, Aus (28 October)
  • Sydney, Aus (14 November)
  • Kowloon, HK (31 January)
  • Wellington, NZ (18 March)
Check out the IABC APAC web site for all the info you need. Don't see an exam near you? It is possible to easily get an exam organised in your city - just get in touch with us to learn more.

* Please note that the Victoria exam scheduled for 18 October has been postponed due to the prevailing health circumstances. As soon as we are able to, a new exam will be scheduled for Victoria, so please continue to send your applications.
