Presidents' Notes

Happy Fall Chickering families!

The Dover PTO has been busy planning a full slate of Curriculum Enrichment, reimagining favorite Community Events (such as our upcoming Virtual BINGO Night), launching new initiatives (Chickering GROWS and Chickering CARES), while expanding our support of teacher grants and classroom needs. See below for more details!

All of these are made possible by your generous support of the Dover PTO. Thank you!! Look for our Check Writing Campaign launching on October 19th. Your support is so important to enable the school to teach in new ways. So far this year the PTO has already supplied each Chickering teacher with a document reader as well as purchased portable whiteboard easels to enhance the outdoor classroom spaces. Thank you in advance for helping us support the school and our students!

Finally we hope you will attend our Open Board Meeting on Thursday October 15th at 7pm over Zoom. Join us to hear from PTO Board Members about how we're supporting the community and the school this year, and responding to our new environment. We welcome your comments, questions, and ideas!

Sincerely,
Amee Tejani and Ellie Beasley

Classroom Cleaning Supplies

Typically each fall, teachers send out a sign up list for families to bring in cleaning items needed in the classroom. This year, family contribution is more important than ever! However, we need specific products that do not interfere with the school's stricter cleaning regimen. For your convenience we've created an  Amazon Wish List with the products needed. Please follow this link to provide items to our school, and at check out, choose to ship to "Chickering School's Gift Registry Address." If you can, purchase early to accommodate for longer delivery times. Also, because these items are in such high demand, you may choose to purchase them cheaper in stores. Any brand of paper towels is fine, but we need to stick with Clorox brand wipes and Purell brand hand sanitizer. The size and scents can vary. Send directly to office for all to share. Thank you so much for your contribution!
Check Writing Campaign!

We hope that you will join in our fundraising efforts and ensure that Chickering School will continue to Rise By Lifting Others! The Dover PTO is excited to announce that this year we will kick off our Check Writing Campaign on Monday, October 19th. Please look out for details to come soon!

Amazon Smile!

Amazon Smile is an easy way for Chickering to collect extra funds. Amazon will donate 0.5% of all your purchases to Chickering if you choose Dover Elementary PTO!

If you need additional instructions for how to set up and use Amazon Smile, please click here.

Room Parents Needed!

Many Chickering classes still need room parent volunteers. Please consider helping out with your child's class by signing up today!  Room parents serve an important role to support teachers, students and classroom community. Room parents will help with class communication, class gatherings (when we resume these), and teacher appreciation events.

Questions?  Contact Alysia Poe at volunteers@doverpto.org

Spelling Bee!

Is your child interested in participating in the Scripps Spelling Bee program? It all starts with the Chickering  school bee this January. We will provide study materials to all who sign up, so the earlier you sign up, the better. All grades are welcome, and all will have ways to participate and be successful. If your child is interested, email Amee Tejani at spellingbee@doverpto.org.
Curriculum Enrichment

The Curriculum Enrichment team is happy to announce that many of the beloved grade-level CE programs will be running this fall, albeit virtually! A few of the program highlights from the fall include:

  • Author Heather Lang discussing the process of writing children's books with our 1st graders
  • A Native American presenter from Plimoth Plantation bringing to life the history of the Wampanoag civilization with our 3rd graders
  •  Audubon science and nature programs in both 1st and 3rd grade

These programs are all made possible by the generous funding provided by you and the Dover PTO!

Chickering GROWS

Chickering GROWS encourages students, teachers, and seniors to learn about gardening while connecting with the Chickering community. This fall, we are growing zinnias in a self-watering bell jar garden. A fitting flower, as it represents lasting friendship and remembrance during a time we cannot all be together. These kits provide a unique opportunity for us all to grow the same things in our homes and classrooms. Check out our Padlet https://bit.ly/ChickeringGrowsFallPadlet - a true community garden - where participants can post their photos and learn about hydroponics. We hope you will participate in Chickering GROWS this winter and spring! Please visit the Chickering GROWS webpage for more information: www.doverpto.org/chickering-grows.

If you have any questions about the program, please contact Jamie Godfrey, Chickering GROWS Coordinator at jamiedgodfrey@gmail.com. We can't wait to GROW with you!

Introducing: Chickering CARES!

We are expanding our 4th and 5th grade Make A Difference Club to ALL Chickering students, and so we introduce Chickering CARES!

Chickering CARES will help to educate and create awareness around the needs in our local communities by discovering simple ways that we can ALL make a difference! Kids will participate in fun projects and community service initiatives, all of which will foster kindness and generosity, while helping our children begin to develop philanthropic leadership skills, in a time that it is more important than ever.

Check out this flyer for our first initiative supporting Family Promise Metrowest.

If you have any questions and/or thoughts or suggestions about future Chickering CARES initiatives, please contact Kim Hall at community@doverpto.org.

TOGETHER, we CAN make a difference!
