Medicare Fall Open Enrollment Period begins
October 15 and ends December 7.

Due to current safety measures, assisting Medicare beneficiaries will be different this fall. Instead of our annual onsite events, SHINE has dedicated Tuesdays for Medicare Counseling Events by Phone from October 27 through December 1.

To schedule an appointment, please call the Elder Helpline at 866-413-5337.

Be prepared to talk with a SHINE counselor, review the Medicare Check-up list:

Medicare Check-up:
  • Create or update your MyMedicare.gov account (visit Medicare.gov)
  • Current prescription drug list with dosage, frequency and quantity
  • Your Medicare information (Red, White, & Blue Medicare card, Part A/B effective dates)
  • If applicable, name of your Medicare Advantage Plan (does it include Part D coverage?)
  • If applicable, name of your Prescription Drug Plan

Not available on Tuesdays?
Counselors are available Monday – Friday to assist you with open enrollment and all matters related to Medicare including access to preventive services, cost-saving programs, and identifying and reporting Medicare fraud.

SHINE Tip of the Month: Educate, Evaluate and Enroll

If you have Medicare Advantage or a Part D plan, take time to review your
Annual Notice of Change
(or your Evidence of Coverage statement).

These letters will inform you of important changes to your plan's benefits, coverage and costs.

If you are dissatisfied with any of your plan’s changes, you can enroll in a new plan (effective January 2021).

Join us in October as we talk about cost, coverage, and convenience. Now is the time to plan for 2021; through education and evaluation of your current coverage as well as your options for 2021, you can decide to remain with your current plan or to enroll in a new plan.

Phishing scams can be hard to spot.

One of the most recent ones is a text message saying that there’s an unclaimed package waiting for you, and asking you to click a link to learn more. Sounds innocent enough, right? Unfortunately not.

If you missed this special ZOOM presentation for Falls Prevention Week, it was recorded for you to watch at your convenience. Sherry Young, Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida's Health and Wellness Coordinator, was one of the presenters. Click the image to be directed to the webinar.
