This Thanksgiving, Gratitude Is Up to Us
In Canada right now, COVID-19 is the final straw for families who were already pushed to the financial edge before the virus struck. By the end of the year, 12,000 people per day living around the world could die from hunger because of the pandemic.
This Thanksgiving, gratitude is up to us. Care is up to us. Our generosity can make all the difference.
Please share our short, inspiring Thanksgiving video in your church service and on social media, and read our Thanksgiving Minute for Mission that tells the amazing story of how the gift of food transformed the lives of a family who went hungry because of COVID-19.
You can make a special Thanksgiving gift through Mission & Service to help people who need it most during this pandemic.
UN Decade for People of African Descent
The October Prayer Cycle for the UN International Decade for People of African Descent is now online. These daily prayers are one way of engaging with the UN International Decade for People of African Descent. The prayers are related to anti-Black racism and the realities of Black peoples in Canada and around the world.
One of the ways the church is engaging with the Decade is by doing targeted work towards combatting racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia, and related intolerances faced by people of African descent. We know that prayer has the power to transform and amplify our actions. We therefore invite people to pray during this midway point in the Decade for the human rights and fundamental freedoms of people of African descent.
A daily schedule of intercessions is suggested in this resource.
You can download the Prayer Cycle (Part 5) at the bottom of this page.

Over the summer, more than 6,000 Canadians signed a petition calling for Canadian corporations to uphold human rights and protect the environment abroad. We need to keep that momentum going. Consider participating in this virtual rally organized by United Church partner Canadian Network for Corporate Accountability, and support United Church global partners who ask us to ensure that Canadian corporations are held accountable for their actions.
When: Sunday October 18 at 4:00 p.m. EDT, 1:00 p.m. PDT.
