Featured Dog:

Lacy

Lacy is a 3 year old spayed female black lab mix that came to LHS as a stray not knowing where her next meal might be or who she could trust. She has been with us for 6 months while getting healthy and learning basic commands.

Lacy is now in good health but will need heartworm preventative monthly for her lifetime. She is full of love energy and smarts! She is ready for her forever home that can give her lots of love and exercise to help her forget her rough beginnings and feel safe and loved!

*No other pets in home.
*Children over 12.
*Fenced yard a PLUS!
*Sorry no apartment dwellers; homeowners only due to size and breed.

Featured Cats:

Lilith and Ramsey

Bad Luck? Nonsense.

Although the Puritans believed that black cats were associated with witches, many other cultures appreciate these mysterious creatures.

In ancient Egypt, black cats were worshiped and treated like royalty. In Japan, single women who own black cats are believed to attract more suitors. British sailors believed a black cat would bring the ship good luck and ensure a safe return home.

We can't guarantee good luck or a better love life if you adopt Lilith or Ramsey. But they are sure to bring you love and happiness.

Ramsey (below) is a 3-year-old short haired female who has been at LHS for quite awhile. Let's get her a home of her own.
Lilith (above) is a black short hair with a white diamond at her throat. A sweet, gentle kitten, born sometime in June 2020.

Events and Visits
Walking for Donations
The 16th annual Pat McGee Memorial Dog Walk was held on Sunday, October 4. This was a socially-distanced Fall version of the walk on the streets around the Adoption Center. The walkers (human and canine) earned funds for LHS by having friends and family sponsor their walks. A chicken barbecue, basket raffles, and boutique sales rounded out the festivities. Thanks to all who participated and contributed.

Generous Bequest Provides Room to Grow

LHS recently added another building to our property at 431 E. Chestnut Street in Dunkirk. The pole barn was made possible and is dedicated to the memory of Gary Grobaski who left his estate to Lakeshore Humane Society upon his death in 2018. Gary and his dogs attended many Lakeshore Humane Society events over the years. A sign on the barn depicts two of his German Shepherds, Spike and Elsa, who accompanied him just about everywhere he went. Suzanne Lawie of SirPrintsAlot designed the sign.
