For September’s Dev Discussion, we asked, “What were some moments in an MMO that broke your immersion? How much did those moments affect your perception of the game? How important is immersion to you, generally?” Thank you all for sharing your feedback, which we broke down into the following takeaways:
Immersion Breakers
- Repetition - reused monsters, repetitive music, fetch quests
- Visuals - terrain transitions, optimization, camera FOV, out-of-place outfits
Immersion Makers
- Choices and consequences - player agency, meaningful crafting
- A “living world” - lore, emotes, animations, RP tools, voice acting
The Dividing Line (These were the controversial ones, with folks on either side!)
