OfS: Increased Admissions for Low Participation Groups

Last week, the Office for Students published data that indicates the highest annual increase rate for HE admissions amongst the lowest participation groups.

Although this is great news, much is still to be done. Worries for prospective students range from social distancing to student experience, and for educators a concern is for the widening attainment gap. The sector has adapted to online learning, however, this has highlighted issues in digital poverty and accessibility.  With uncertainty in the job market, due to the current crisis, the launch of the ‘Lifetime Skills Guarantee’ supporting vocational and academic pathways in further and higher education was also positive news.

A real advocacy for technical qualifications and educational reform highlights that we need to make sure that prospective students have all the information at hand to make decisions.  As a sector we can collaborate and do this together. In this newsletter we will continue to share the activities and resources schools, colleges and higher education institutions are creatively delivering to overcome these challenges.
