What We Need Now - National Voices 'COVID voices' report and I Statements

Dear <<First Name>>,

In the past week National Voices has released two really important and powerful reports covering people’s experiences of health and care during the first wave of COVID-19.

What We Know Now was a rapid and truly collaborative effort incorporating responses from 11 members’ surveys - it painted a worrying picture, yet contained many lessons for addressing people’s health and care needs during the pandemic. It truly showed the ability National Voices as a coalition has in getting people together and focusing on a shared goal.

What We Need Now, launched at a highly engaging and well-attended webinar on Tuesday, details people’s experiences as contributed by themselves to National Voices’ Our COVID Voices platform.  And from these experiences, we have drawn up a set of very practical recommendations for people to use in health and care settings, as well as creating a new set of National Voices ‘I Statements’, which express what people want and what they should expect from health and care (see below).

We would love you to look at these reports if you haven’t already. And I would like to ask one more thing: it would be great to know how you would like to work with the I Statements - they are receiving a lot of attention since we launched them and we feel they are going to be a valuable addition to the work that we all do as part of the National Voices movement. We have produced an illustrated version of the I Statements that is really accessible – feel free to download it and share with your members or other partners.

In the past weeks it's become clear how much stronger we are when we work together: together we have forged these I Statements and together we can promote and embed them in health and care settings to ensure what people experience is fair, effective and efficient.

Please drop me a line to the email below if you are as inspired, as we have been, by these I Statements to create some momentum that ensures that health and care services during the pandemic take into account the views and the rights of the recipient.

I have only recently joined National Voices and was attracted by exactly this sort of work: raising people's voices, articulating needs, getting people together, trying to make a difference. I have been made very welcome and I hope to hear more about the people and organisations that make up this coalition and how you feel we can all work together.
best wishes
