After reviewing all city and CDC guidance, our "Trunk or Treat" alternative this year will be an Enchanted Forest on Saturday, October 31st from 2pm to 6pm.  Families are invited to come (in costume!) and walk through our outdoor "enchanted forest" of decorated cars (one family at a time).  At the end of the forest, a package of individually-wrapped candy will be distributed to each child.  Protective face-masks will be required.

If you would like to volunteer to decorate your car as an "enchanted tree" in our forest, please contact Patty at the church office (915-533-7551, office@fpcep.org) to let us know.  We'll provide the candy, but will need some health-conscious-minded volunteers to help us distribute it in a safe, responsible manner, and also direct traffic during the event.

On Thursday, October 15th, First Presbyterian Church will participate in the international "Wave of Light" event with an evening worship service and candle lighting at our outdoor prayer labyrinth.  The service will be an opportunity to remember children lost during pregnancy, infancy, and childhood or adulthood. Participants are invited to bring a small picture or memento to deposit in a memory box that will be interred beneath the labyrinth. The service will begin at 6:30pm, and at 7pm we will join in with others around the world in lighting candles of remembrance.  Please feel free to invite anyone you think may benefit from this event.

It is that time of year again for our annual and very successful Coat Sunday! In partnership with our preschool and elementary school, we are currently collecting new and used coats until October 23rd. You can bring coat donations to the church office, or simply hang them on the fence near the front office door, and we will collect them.  Then on October 25th (Reformation Sunday!) we'll say a prayer of blessing over the coats in both Sunday worship services, after which they will be delivered to needy children in Ciudad Juarez. Thank you for your donations!
Irish poet and lecturer David Whyte speaks to a world of people isolated from one another in his volume of poetry, “Essentials.” In an excerpt from his poem of encouragement, Everything Is Waiting for You, Whyte writes:

“Put down the weight of your aloneness and ease
into the conversation. The kettle is singing
even as it pours you a drink, the cooking pots
have left their arrogant aloofness and
seen the good in you at last. All the birds
and creatures of the world are unutterably
themselves. Everything is waiting for you.”

Prayer requests for September—Three and continuing prayers. Our pastor, staff and members stand ready to pray for your joys and concerns. If you would like pastoral prayer, please call the church office and leave a message. To be added to our member-led prayer chain, contact the church office at 915-533-7551.
