Check Out the AWP Pandemic Spotlight Series

In this special AWP Spotlight series, AWP features the work of our members who have so generously supported their communities and the literary community at large during the pandemic. Hear more from Melissa Fraterrigo, Carol D. Guerrero-Murphy, and Yiyun Li, our October members in this special #AWPSPOTLIGHT.

Over the next few months, AWP will continue to shine a spotlight on members who have supported their communities and the literary community at large in this special AWP Spotlight series. Help us honor the important work of our members by nominating someone you know who has supported their literary community with generosity and creativity during this challenging year.

AWP asked: What book character do you relate to the most and why?

Some of the answers we received:

@jennaglov: Bilbo Baggins. I found an honesty in him that I didn't see often in fantasy books. He didn't want to go on an adventure, wasn't very good at hero things, and his main motivation wasn't some vague notion of the "greater good." He wanted to help his friends.

Izabella Elkjær Dall Flynn: Woodrow Call from Lonesome Dove. I also hate rude behavior.

@TheWritePerson: Lauren Olamina- Parable of the Sower (Octavia Butler) #courage #empath #collaborator

AWP also asked: If you were to try writing in a new genre, which would it be?

Some of the answers we received:

Christopher X. Ryan: psalms

Robert D. Gosselin: I would like to try writing a western.

Jana Russ: Mysteries.

@stickpoet: Fiction. But I run hot and cold on cheating on poetry.

Follow AWP on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to look for a different question every Tuesday.
