CALLING ALL EDUCATORS AND SCHOOL STAFF:
FALL IS UPON US!

We know this this school year has been one like no other so far. With an increase in COVID-19 cases across the country, MCIS is closely monitoring government and public health guidelines and news. We are also waiting for guidance from school boards regarding this year’s Parent-Teacher interviews, which are typically held in November. In the meantime, we want you to know that we are here and ready to support you when the time comes.

As an example, last year, MCIS received over 2,100 requests for interpreters (most over a two-day period) for parent-teacher interviews, ultimately helping over 5,000 individuals overcome language barriers. We are prepared to do the same this year.
LET’S GET BACK TO #FLATTENTHECURVE…
CONSIDER REMOTE SERVICES

As of July 1, 2020, MCIS resumed the provision of in-person interpretation services. We continue to do so even with the rise in COVID cases. However, we do want to encourage you to use our remote services, if you can, especially if in-person interpretation would place our interpreters, your staff and clients at risk. We can provide scheduled and immediate interpretation via telephone or video conferencing. These are both safe alternatives to face-to-face interpretation when there are health risks to those present.

Where in-person interpretation is required, please know that MCIS is screening interpreters by:
  • Asking all interpreters who have travelled in the past 14 days to inform MCIS immediately and to following public health guidelines on self-quarantine, avoiding contact with others and seeking medical assistance.
  • Asking interpreters not to accept jobs if they, or their family members, show or experience any symptoms associated with COVID-16. If symptoms develop after the assignment has been booked, we ask the interpreters to inform us immediately so that another interpreter can be sourced. If it short notice, we will always work with you to find the best alternative solution for seamless delivery.

Let’s continue to do our part to #flattenthecurve.
