NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY
NEW MEMBERS

Congratulations to these 8th grade students that were recently accepted into Lanier’s 2020-2021 Chapter National Junior Honor Society.

They join the 111 students that were accepted last spring to bring our chapter to members to our largest group ever of 124 accepted members!  We are excited to start our year of service and plan to have a big impact on our greater community.  If you have volunteer opportunities that you feel would be appropriate for our group please share with our sponsor, Mrs. Rhymes – Kathleen.rhymes@houstonisd.org.

PUPS

Former GSG Leadership Program

Weekly PUPS Inquiry Questions:

Each week we frame our daily PUPS plans around IB concepts, themes and values to help focus our community building activities.  We encourage families to continue the conversation at home as we develop our new PUPS program.

Week 5:
  • Why is it important that you have all the information and perspectives before making a decision or reacting to a situation?  How does learning another person’s perspective help us grow?
  • Why is introspection so important?  What is the danger of never stopping and assessing how you are doing in any given circumstance or situation?  What is meant by the statement: Knowledge is power and knowledge of ourselves is empowering?
  • What is something you have learned about Lanier today?  How would you describe Lanier to someone else?
  • What is perspective and why is it important?  What is introspection and why is it important?  How do these things help you to better appreciate the opportunities you have as a student at LMS?

2021 Washington DC Summer Tour

Please join us for a virtual informational meeting about a travel opportunity for your child. Lanier has had a long-standing tradition (30 years in a row) for 6th graders to travel to Washington DC. This school year’s trip is being offered in June of 2021 after school lets out for the summer. In previous years this trip has only been available to 6th graders, but this trip is being offered to 7th graders as well since we had to cancel last year’s trip due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
This year’s trip is being offered by EF Explore America. They are a highly respected tour operator best know for their educational tours all over the world. They will be going to great lengths to provide a safe tour for your child and ensure your investment if the tour is cancelled.
The virtual informational meeting is scheduled for October 14 th @ 6:00 PM. See the attached flyer here on how to RSVP for the meeting and receive your individual zoom link to participate or just receive more information if you are not able to attend. Hope to see you there.
