Unique Finds From Kermit Lynch

In September, we had a virtual wine tasting with our friends from Kermit Lynch Importers, purveyors of some of the finest wines from France and Italy. The tasting was a big hit and we were able to get our hands on some hard to find wines from KL. Over the course of October, we will be keeping our shelves stocked with these unique finds from Kermit Lynch. Stop on by to check them out or find them now in our online store!

Blinders Event With SommTV and Brandon Wise

The Wine Spot is partnering with the creators of the SOMM films and SommTV for a special virtual event featuring SommTV's new wine tasting game, Blinders! The objective of Blinders is to correctly match your cards to the wine that you think you're blind tasting. Using the cards found in the Blinders deck, be the first to guess the wine correctly to win the round! We will also be joined by local artist Brandon Wise, whose art is featured in the Blinders deck as well as the SommTV films.

For this game, we will be using the Original Blinders deck, which features tasting notes for both red and white wine. The game can be played by yourself or with another person, and will be played virtually with the other attendees. For a flat rate of $65, you will receive the Original Blinders deck as well as two blindly packaged bottles of wine, one red and one white. This Blinders Package is available now through our online store, or swing by the shop to pick it up!

Once you have the deck and the wines in hand it is free to attend the event, just RSVP on eventbrite!

Le Fraghe Bardolino
80% Corvina, 20% Rondinella
Veneto, Italy

BACK IN! This was Adam's pick of the week last week. We sold out of it so fast, that we decided to run it again to let everyone know it's back in stock!

From the northern part of Italy near Lake Garda in the Veneto.  Bardolino is the lighter and fresher cousin to the more common Valpolicella. Made from the same grapes (Corvina and Rondinella) used to create the powerful and long lived king red of the region, Amarone. Bardolino is a lighter, refreshing wine perfect for summer and fall. I love this wine! As I taste more, I prefer my reds lighter and more refreshing and to me this is the perfect wine. It has fresh light red fruit, a brightness that your tongue will flip over and just enough acidity to make it perfect with food, just about any food!. Serve slightly chilled and enjoy by the fire. Buy two bottles, it’s under $20! -Adam

Columbus Brewing
Yakima Fresh
Wet-Hopped IPA
7.5% ABV

“Why don’t you write about an IPA this week? Everybody likes IPAs, you should pick an IPA.”
No one is actually telling me this, other than the nagging grandmother that lives in the back of my brain, and now it’s out there in the world. So let’s get this out of the way first: I am not what you would call “An IPA Guy.” Now before you get all hot and sudsy and start sputtering foamy epithets at me (How can this %@$^&#* guy recommend a good beer if he’s not an IPA guy!?), know this also: I am A Beer Guy. I like beer and I drink a lot of it. Beer, to me, is kind of like music. I like lots of different stuff and can find appreciation in pretty much any category or style. Some stuff I like a lot, like bluegrass and foeder-aged saisons. Other stuff…not so much, like pop country and Double Cheeseburger Hopped 10% ABV Berliner Weisses. I don’t think that last thing exists, but if it did, I wouldn’t be shocked. Anyway, the point is I have preferences. And sometimes I do, in fact, like to drink an IPA. Like this one. It’s fresh hopped which means the hops were chucked into the beer, still fresh, green, and wet, within 24 hours, which is pretty cool. They came all the way from Yakima Valley, WA. Look, I’m not gonna spoon feed you here, we’re all critical thinkers, we all understand how beers get named. The beer is dank and citrusy. It’s got a bright, punchy bitterness that’s balanced by smooth, lightly honeyed malt. Pick up a 4 pack today because it only comes out once a year because they only harvest hops once a year. And if you don’t like it, maybe try the new Steak Frites Pastry Stout. I hear it is, most definitely, a beer.

Elqui Wines
Carménère, Malbec and Syrah
Elqui Valley, Chile

This is the first Carménère (blend) I ever tried! I've been trying as much new stuff as I can lately to study for WSET, but now that that's over I figured I'd pick an old favorite. This was on the wine list when I was new to Wine Spot and I was trying everything, but this one stuck with me. At the time I was convinced I only liked big, full-bodied, fruit forward reds, but I hadn't really tried anything but Cab up until that point. This helped me figure out that there was a lot of wine out there to try!

Orbis Moderandi Pet-Nat
100% Sauvignon Blanc
New Zealand

This pet-nat is perfect for those just venturing into this area of wine. I was bale to share this bottle pre-Covid with some wine loving friends who had never had pet-nat before. Even though they were hesitant about the sediment, they loved the wine, as did I. It was fresh and citrusy with very little funk and an enjoyable mouthfeel. Serve well chilled and enjoy with socially distant friends!
