Draft Montana Forest Action Plan Released
The Montana Forest Action Advisory Council (MFAAC) has announced the release of the draft 2020 revision of the Montana Forest Action Plan (MFAP). MFAP is Montana's all lands, all hands plan for addressing forest health and wildfire risk issues across the state of Montana and consists of a statewide Assessment of Forest Conditions, designated Priority Areas for Focused Attention, and a set of recommended goals and strategies to achieve cross-boundary forest restoration and management.
These goals and strategies in this plan address the following focus areas: Forest Health, Wildfire Risk, Working Forests and Economies, Biodiversity and Habitat Conservation, Human and Community Health, and Urban and Community Forests.
You can learn more about the Montana Forest Action Plan, and review the full plan, by visiting the website https://www.montanaforestactionplan.org. The Council welcomes feedback from partners and the public through October 23, 2020.
Conservation practices on Craig and Conni's C Lazy J Livestock Ranch, outside Malta, are improving not only their own livestock operations, but also the health Montana's natural resources. Craig and Conni have improved water quality in Beaver Creek, which winds through 3 miles of their ranch, and supported wildlife with conflict-free fencing and protection of native grass and sagebrush. Healthier wildlife habitat has allowed them to enroll in Montana's Block Management Program so hunters can enjoy the benefits as well.
