We will be relaunching the 8am Communion service this Sunday.
It will be a return to a traditional service and will be carefully socially distanced.
Rather than using Common Worship in traditional language I would like to offer the service from the Book of Common Prayer. I know this is slightly different from the Common Worship in traditional language service we have used in the past but given the changes we have had to make in light of Covid it would allow us to return to a wider range of liturgy that we are are offering at the moment and give people access to the wonderful words of the BCP. However, if people would rather use Common Worship words and I have misjudged people's feelings about this - please do let me know - I would be happy to use Common Worship.

We know there have been some glitches with the sound system and we think we have been able to iron them out this week. After testing during the week and a visit from our sound engineers. The hearing loop is now repaired and the echoing of the system has been reduced.
Please do let us know if you are struggling to hear straight away and we will do all we can to correct the problem.

About me
My name is Arvid Nielsen. I am the youngest of three children born to K Warren and Mary P Nielsen, formerly of Bridlington. During my childhood, the family moved to the village of Ulrome, before the 3 children dispersed to various corners of the nation. I live in Warwickshire, with my fiancée, Michelle, although my heart will always be in Yorkshire and particularly, Beverley. I have been in the wood trade all my working life, following my late Dad and Danish grandfather into the industry. Though I am not a carpenter or tool tradesman, I run joinery and wood product manufacturing companies and the trade is one of my passions.
My connection with St Mary’s Church
While the Nielsen Family has been closely associated with Den Scandinaviske Sømandskirke in Kingston upon Hull for decades, we were all brought up Anglicans and I was baptised in Holy Trinity Church, Bridlington, Confirmed by Dr Donald Coggan in Sedbergh School Chapel and have worshipped in local Churches where I have lived. Circumstances of my life in 2011, brought me through the doors of St Mary’s. First, I met the Parish clerk, then I met Becky, who kindly invited me along to a church evening in the hall. That evening, I met the wonderful Jane Lumb, my ‘shepherdess’ as I call her! Since that evening, meeting some truly wonderful people and particularly the late Don Humphries, I consider St Mary’s to be my Mother Church. It is always a delight to join in worship at St Mary’s and we look forward to the next opportunity to visit and see the C S Lewis characters.
I was very pleased that Becky could lead the funeral service for my late Dad, up at Octon. As such, with Jane visiting Mum in Beverley Community Hospital and subsequently visiting Dad in Beverley Parklands Care Home, my parents became much closer to St Mary’s in their ‘twilight years’.
My passions
I am passionate about many things, but leave plenty of room for new opportunities. I am primarily passionate about my belief in God, Christ and my Faith. Michelle challenges me on many aspects of my Faith, though I am certainly passionate about her fantastic baking and cooking and because her support of me helps me through difficult times, when my Faith wanes. A wonderful woman and definitely Heaven sent. Michelle’s cooking is a passion of mine, but when palate is stimulated and hunger turns to being replete, I cannot find one particular dish to be passionate about more than others. The environment is a major concern of mine. However, when minds are manipulated by the media, it’s a struggle to enlighten minds of the issues which are causing the vast majority of problems across the world.
What encourages my faith
God has been very present in my life on a number of occasions. I don’t need to go into detail. As John Wayne said in the film Chisum, “Because no matter where people go, sooner or later there's the law. And sooner or later they find God's already been there”. Until you reflect and look back at the God ‘incidents' in your life, you don’t realise how close to you He is each and every day. Most days, God is just ‘about’, but when you need Him, He comes when asked. In fact, it’s right to say, that as Psalm 139 states for all to see, "in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them".
A very inspiring U.S. Pastor, Bayless Conley, has his church send out daily inspirational and weekly YouTube sermons. He ‘guides’ his congregation to the answers from The Bible. UCB, Word for Today, inspirés me too and I have Jane Lumb to thank for the introduction to the first booklet. Now I receive a daily email from that organisation. Michelle encourages my Faith. We are good for each other in that we are together on our journey. We understand one another and that makes for a good mix. I lack her fire sometimes, but that is because I am a mix of meekness and strength. My Faith takes many knocks and they are mainly due to allowing my thoughts to take over my mind. But then, as I am learning to share my thoughts with Michelle, her ‘square’ shoulders and German efficiency reduces the strength of those thoughts. My late Dad once said to me “pleasing God is a tough ask”. I didn’t understand what he meant until I thought about the various ‘challenges’ we are set in life. Jesus said, Love God and Love thy neighbour. Sounds easy, but our neighbour is our boss, our co-worker, our employee or our relative. Neighbours are angry shoppers or press members. Mark 11, vs 22-26, my late Dad’s chosen verses in my late Granddad’s pocket NT. says it all, how it needs to be. Yes, God gives us some tough challenges, but having Faith in Him, makes it ‘easy’. So, my Faith is challenged, probably more so since I believed in Christ Jesus and God with more conviction than before 2011, but, because of where I am, where I have been and where I am going, In God I Trust.

The annual church meeting will take place on
Sunday 25th October at 12.00 noon in Church.
Please bear in mind that the church electoral roll has to be revised in advance of the meeting. The roll is now available to be looked at in the church door for revisions to be made.
The allowed numbers for attendees follows our current guidelines of safe seating for up to 60 people sitting separately (70 people with those sitting in bubbles) but is subject to further Government or Church of England guidance nearer the time and any local restrictions. We will therefore ask people to sign a list if they wish to attend in person.
The reports are will be e-mailed out and issued to people without computers and available in the church by Sunday 11 October 2020.
We will try to enable the meeting to be attended via Zoom as well please let us know if you would like to attend by zoom.
1. The APCM is a meeting for all those on the church’s electoral roll. The purpose of this meeting is to receive the reports and to make elections and appointments.
2. The annual meeting of parishioners is a meeting for all those on the church’s electoral roll and all those resident in the parish whose names are on the civil electoral roll of the parish. The purpose of this meeting is to elect the churchwardens. The provisions concerning nomination in section 4 of the Churchwardens Measure 2001 continue to apply and some thought will need to be given as to how the nomination paperwork can be coordinated in advance of the virtual meeting.
3. The new arrangements permit the meeting to take place in a virtual ‘location’ (for example, on an interactive video-conferencing platform such as Zoom) and for voting to take place electronically rather than ‘in person’. It does not change the procedural requirements for the convening of the meeting and notices of it.

A simple form of evening prayer and candle lighting *
At St Mary's we would like to invite you to join us in a short time of prayer every day at 7pm. It involves lighting a candle and placing it in the window and then saying the following prayers as individuals or as households. You can join with others in these prayers on our Facebook page.
The Lord almighty grant us a quiet night and a perfect end. Amen.

O God, make speed to save us.
