National lockdown - an update on our service

We are still able to offer face to face support to those in crisis.

We are now in the second national lockdown but you can continue to book an appointment with us for support, or to use one of our computers for health appointments, meetings and training etc.  People who have come in to see us have found it really helpful, so if you haven't made an appointment yet, we look forward to seeing you.  Sadly, our plans for other socially distanced face-to-face activities are on hold for the moment.  We are continuing our regular phone calls - so if you would like to speak to someone please give us a call.

Have you taken the Crisis Café survey yet?
The Crisis Café for Sutton consultation closes on November 16th, so if you haven't already had your say please take a few minutes to fill in our online survey and give us your views on what this service should look like.  We now have surveys for service users, carers and mental health professionals.  If you prefer, you can email crisiscafe@smhf.org.uk or phone 020 8770 0172 to tell us your thoughts.

Stay Active
Don't forget we have online activities for you - this month we have a special Signpost Sutton talk on the benefits of Mindfulness for Mental Health, and you can try Mindfulness online (Mondays) and Yoga on Thursdays.

As always, we are on the telephone if you need us - 020 8770 0172.

New national restrictions from 5 November

When we reduce our day-to-day contact with other people, we reduce the spread of the infection. That is why, from Thursday 5 November until Wednesday 2 December, you must:

  1. Stay at home, except for specific purposes.
  2. Avoid meeting people you do not live with, except for specific purposes.
  3. Close certain businesses and venues.
For more information on the new national restrictions, including what they mean from home and business closures, why they are being introduced and the financial support available -  https://www.gov.uk/guidance/new-national-restrictions-from-5-november

Have you taken the Sutton Crisis Café survey yet?
Visit https://smhf.org.uk/crisiscafe/ and tell us what is important for a good crisis service.

A Crisis Café is a safe, welcoming space where people can go for support outside of normal working hours, instead of using A&E or other urgent services. It is for people who are feeling emotionally distressed or experiencing severe mental health difficulties.

Sutton Mental Health Foundation is working with NHS Sutton commissioners to look at setting up a pilot Crisis Café in Sutton.

Please take 5 minutes to fill in the online survey smhf.org.uk/crisiscafe or email your comments to crisiscafe@smhf.org.uk.

For help accessing the survey offline, please call 0208 770 0172 and leave your contact details and someone will get back to you.

Discover the benefits of Mindfulness for your mental health.  Join us for an online information session presented by Vajragupta from Croydon Buddhist Centre and Angelika Chaffey, NHS Mindfulness Trainer.

A big thank you to Theo The Magician
Just before lockdown 2, Theo Theodoris presented Madam Mayor and Madam Deputy Mayor with a cheque for £525. This money was raised from Theo The Magician's Sunflower competition in support of Madam Mayor's chosen charities - Sutton Mental Health Foundation and Home-Start Sutton. Thank you to all the local people and businesses that supported this event.

Intentional Peer Support – What is it?

Intentional Peer Support (IPS) offers non-judgemental emotional support for people over 18 living or wokring in Sutton. For those experiencing mental distress it can be a real lifeline.

You may be waiting for help from traditional support services, seeking some extra emotional support on top of the services you are receiving, or looking for support following discharge from care.

Our Peer Support workers all have their own lived experience. This means they can empathise and support from a shared viewpoint and have had similar struggles and experiences.

If you would like more information,  please phone for a chat on 020 8770 0172 or email admin@smhf.org.uk
