Solar heat on its way to bankability

French project developer NewHeat has successfully closed a EUR 13 million finance deal to cover the cost of putting up five solar heat plants totalling 28 MWth. The deal opens a new chapter in the history of the solar thermal sector in Europe when it comes to securing the trust of lenders. German Triodos Bank played the role of the arranger, the main lender, and was 'followed' by the French Crédit Coopératif. “It is the responsibility of the project developer to provide banks with good enough reasons, securities and guarantees to convince them that the technologies are not particularly risky and that any issues during operation will be dealt with so they will not lose their money,” NewHeat CEO Hugues Defréville said about the negotiations leading up to the loan agreement (Photo: NewHeat).
