Professional development opportunities
CDE has created a webpage of professional development offerings, which includes opportunities specifically from ESSU.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Training
This workshop on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion by Regina Lewis and Judge Regina Walter will expand the participants’ cultural diversity competencies and supply knowledge, resources and practices to enhance communication with students, parents, community collaborators and other professionals. Topics covered will include implicit and explicit bias, gender identity and sexual orientation, racial and ethnic disparities, poverty, power, and privilege. The training will be held via Zoom  from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19. and Friday, Nov. 20. A total of 15 CDE contact hour credits or one graduate credit (cost of $55) from Adams State University are available. Register here, or visit the CDE website for more information. Speech-Language Pathology Assistant supervision in schools
An online, self-paced course is available for any school-based speech-language pathologist who is new to supervising or who needs a review. This is not intended for administrators who are evaluating SLPAs for performance reviews, although administrators are welcome to take the course. A total of 10 CDE contact hours credits are available. The course is available from Monday. Nov. 16. through Jan. 4. Register here starting Friday, Oct. 16, or visit the CDE website for more information. Lively Letters webinar
Lively Letters is a multi-sensory, research-based reading program developed by speech-language pathologists to support literacy development. This training is offered as a supplement intervention for children with speech sound disorders to teach accurate speech sound production while learning to pair speech sounds with letters. Those interested can participate via Zoom from  3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, and Friday, Nov. 13. A total of 0.65 ASHA CEUs or 6.5 CDE contact hours credits are available. Colorado Society of School Psychologist Annual Conference
The Colorado Society of School Psychologists invites you to its virtual fall conference from noon to 4 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 12, and Friday, Nov. 13, via Zoom. This year’s program will focus on an expansive view of the role of school psychologists, covering timely topics, emphasizing social justice and advocacy. Click here for conference Information and Registration. Secondary Transition Office Hours
Secondary Transition office hours will be held monthly on Wednesdays throughout the school year from 3 to 4 p.m. Each month, we will highlight an example of different transition service delivery models used in districts across the state. To participate, please access the following link:  Secondary Transition Office Hours. Contact Gail Lott at lott_g@cde.state.co.us with questions. 

Transition Talks
CDE's Secondary Transition Consultant will host monthly transition talks on a variety of topics related to effective secondary transition planning from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of the month via Zoom. For additional information, please use the following link: Transition Talks. Regional Meetings for Secondary Transition Personnel – We Need to Hear from You

Secondary Transition Newsletter
We launched the first edition of the Secondary Transition Newsletter. Soon, we will use this newsletter to communicate upcoming training, events, and highlight promising practices. View the newsletter here.

Monthly Specific Learning Disability Community of Practice
The SLD Community of Practice group meets once a month with the next meeting at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22. The purpose of this group is to hold space for special education directors and designees to gather and share novel solutions to common challenges resulting from COVID-19. Please come with your questions and any solutions or resources your community has found to address common issues regarding SLD in the context of COVID-19.

Training on understanding and nurturing the communicative competence of learners with significant support needs, including deaf-blindness

The Colorado Services for Children and Youth with Combined Vision and Hearing Loss Project will offer a monthly webinar series with the first two virtual trainings set to occur over the next month.

  • Session One: Thursday, Oct. 15, from 3 to 5 p.m. with Phil Schweigert. Recognizing the Communication Abilities of Learners with Significant Support Needs, Including Deaf-Blindness.
  • Session Two: Thursday, Nov. 19, from 3 to 5 p.m. with Phil Schweigert. Promoting the Communicative Competence of Learners with Significant Support Needs, Including Deaf-Blindness.

Twice-Exceptional professional learning courses
Join a professional development course to learn about how to support twice-exceptional (2e) learners. Part One of the course begins on Saturday, Oct. 17, and runs until Saturday, Nov. 14. Part Two begins Saturday, Nov. 14, and runs through Saturday, Dec. 19. Participants may choose to do one or both parts of the course.
